Amid substantial membership losses and a $14 million shortfall in its general operating budget, the National Education Association plans to double each active member's annual contribution to the national union's political and media funds. Currently, $10 of each active member's NEA dues is allocated to these special accounts. The more than $20 million collected each year is then disbursed to state affiliates and political issue campaigns -- such as last year's SQ 744 in Oklahoma. A portion of the money also pays for state and national media buys to support the union's agenda. But the most recent numbers show NEA lost more than 54,000 active K-12 members since this time last year. Coupled with less-than-expected increases in the average teacher salary -- upon which NEA dues are based -- the union will find itself with $14 million less revenue than it had planned. This includes about $500,000 less in the political and media funds. Faced with unfriendly legislatures and governors seeking to roll back the union's influence, the NEA Executive Committee decided to double down -- literally. It proposed raising each active member's assessment to $20, effective in September 2011. The union's board of directors ratified the decision, and it will go before the NEA Representative Assembly for a vote this July in Chicago. If passed, NEA's national dues for teachers will total $178. The increase in the assessment has a five-year sunset clause, but this is just eyewash, since the last time the contribution was doubled -- from $5 to $10 in 2004 -- it also had a five-year sunset clause. The 2007 NEA Representative Assembly made the $10 contribution permanent. NEA is already the top political campaign spender in the nation. This increase will give the national union an additional $40 million per election cycle. The increase alone is larger than all but two other groups spent during the entire 2007-08 cycle.

This is the problem. They essentially get to choose their bosses. The bosses they choose (Democrat politicians) won't dare put the public interest above the interest of the failed tenured teachers who have given American about the worst public education system in the developed world. The entire public public education system needs to be pulled up by the roots.

There is no contradiction in creationsim and science. But evolution isn't science. Do you believe in evolution? If you do then you should think fucking monkeys is something normal wouldn't you?

You think you can defeat an argument just by proclaiming you win. That is a silly notion.
NEA "pharmacist" I recall a re-run of MASH I saw where this uber right winger named Colonel Flagg... Right, because labor hating Republicans who slash education and want creationism instead of science have zero to do with that. Let me ask you an honest question gooberloserton, are you still in high school? If NOT, what do YOU DO for a living? Because, honestly, you have the intellectual depth of a "no-see-um". Not to mention your insipid and frankly sub par habit of taking things out of context and playing parsing and word games. Not that I don't enjoy watching you show what an infantile fool you are over and over in public, because I certainly do. I'm just curious as to if it's a partial or complete act. Otherwise you shouldn't be allowed to use sharp implements, or heavy machinery, (which in your case would include spoons). So ... What's your gig pig? What do YOU DO to make MONEY tool? Certainly nothing where you actually have to make any sort of a production of REAL, tangible, physical stuff. Especially in a time sensitive competitive environment Whose teat are you feeding at tool? Which gooberment scam supports your dhimmi day to day life sport?

Science? The U.S. schools are pretty much on the bottom in science in the developed world. Who has run the schools for the last 40 or 50 years? The NEA and their Democrat puppets. You need to grow up and face the real world. Your idols are the establishment. They have failed. They need to be overthrown, like Ghaddafi.
You want to adopt the winning model of education from Finland? Social promotions are the norm there and each classroom has 2 teachers and they tax the hell out of everyone to keep those teacher salaries very high. Because I can't see how paying teachers less money, forcing them to do more work, increasing the ratio of students to teachers, forcing teachers to pay for their own education, and any other number of insane Republican policies will improve the system.
