The last few weeks have been among the most exciting and promising in recent memory.

People all over the middle east are rising up against the tyrants who have lorded over them for decades.

Even Colonel Gaddafi -- a brutal dictator, who has been in power for 42 years -- is fighting for his survival. This should tell us all that something very big is happening in the world.

The turmoil isn't just occurring in the middle east.

Beleaguered taxpayers in Europe and America have staged their own revolutions as well -- booting out fiscally irresponsible politicians who have run up their public debt and torpedoed their economies.

In America, the Tea Party movement helped spur an electoral revolution that saw the largest GOP gains in the Congress in more than a generation.

Expectedly, the forces of reaction are waging a bitter fight against change.

Government bureaucrats and others who live off of tax money have staged violent protests in Greece, France, and the U.K.

In the U.S., the teacher's unions are mounting an all out effort to hold on to the unchecked power that they have over our wallets and our children.

America has among the worst public schools in the developed world. Last year we were 25th out of 34th in math and science. People across the political spectrum understand that we need fundamental reform in education. Over the last three decades, every proposal by both Democrats and Republicans to fix the public schools have been met by bitter opposition from the NEA and other government employee's unions. The NEA has been successful in blocking any and all change.

Today, the NEA is fighting for it's very survival.

The more I look at what's going on around the world, the more I am convinced that we are witnessing the final death of the 20th century and the concept of the all powerful state that it spawned.

People from Tea Party members in America to lowly peasants in Libya are standing up and saying: we've had enough, NO MORE.

It's a great time to be alive to witness this monumental struggle for freedom against the state.

The sad part is that America may very well lag in this revolution because our vested interests are the most powerful vested interests on earth. It's going to take more than one election to push them aside.

Let's hope that our resolve remains strong and that we remain focused, so that America remains the leading beacon of freedom in the world.

Excellent post. I can't wait to see what the reactionaries on this sight have to say. Probably just more smoke and dust.

Well, [war's] got to do something for attention, his multiple personalities aren't speaking to him any more, and his imaginary friends keep finding excuses not to come over.

Thanks.

We always have to remember that reactionaries are reactionaries for a reason -- they don't want to give up their privileged place in the world.

The biggest reactionaries in America today are in the NEA -- an organization that has failed our children and failed our country.

Change can cut both ways. Changing from a Republican tyrant to a Democrat one, or visa-versa, doesn't do any good. We've been playing that game long enough, that we ought to have figured out by now, that it's a dead end.

There's lots of talk... blah blah DEMOCRACY, blah blah... But not much has changed for the better yet. Democratic, mob rule, doesn't even sound that good. Someone's pushing this jive (globalists), and it's not likely to turn out well, IMO.

WW III is more likely than anything else. We don't have the fuel, raw material capacity, or the manufacturing base to fight a real war, like we had for WW II.

We're dependent on China and others for our basic daily needs, and the wheels are coming off of that wagon. Color me pessimistic.

WW III is more likely than anything else.

Given history, you are right. A lot of wars are are started and fought because of economic circumstances.

The world's historic wars would pale in comparison to a nuclear WWIII.

I suspect that there aren't many crazy leaders among the world's powers who would risk a nuclear Holocaust. Putin won't. The Chinese won't. Neither will we, the brits, the French, or the Indians.

Gaddafi would, but he doesn't have the means to create a WWIII.

The three generations of Kims in North Korea might be desperate enough to do it as well. They may or may not have a small nuclear capability.

If Pakistan falls, the world could see a bunch of nuts in power with nukes. Who might they target first? Probably India.

I'm a little more of an optimist than you. We're in a terrible time, but WWIII is not likely in the cards. However, a limited nuclear exchange between Pakistan and India or Israel and someone is increasingly likely.

Change can cut both ways.

It's amazing how few people realize this. Everybody seems to automatically think a new Golden Age is being entered, when the truth is most times only the lead player has changed, not the game.

Even when the game changes,it changes for the worse as often as it does for the better. Witness Russia in 1917.

I just ain't going to get all that excited about change in the middle east because the focus behind that change is most likely a power grab by people who both hate the United States and want to increase oil prices.

Witness Russia in 1917.

Those people didn't have any perspective on the outside world.

Today, the oppressed people of the world have the internet, email, Facebook, Twitter, plus cable stations like CNN, CBNC International, the BBC, and Al Jazeera to tell them about the outside world.

The reality is just the opposite of the neo-con nonsense about how people hate the West's freedom. Technology enables them to know about the freedom around them. They don't hate it. They are envious of it. They are angry because their governments deny them this.

Look at how easily communism fell in Russia and Eastern Europe in the 1989. It just went away. Overnight. Sure, there were decades of effort to contain them and finally pressure them. In the end, the communists just went away without any fight.

The people are protesting in Iran against the religious nuts. How do the neo- cons explain this away as a Muslim extremist insurrection? They can't. Because they are wrong.

The fact is that this rebellion is generally going to be good thing. That's doesn't mean that there won't be problems. Things can go wrong. Overall, I am very encouraged.

I doubt most of the Libyans do,either.

Hell, most AMERICANS have no perspective on the outside world. Half the bastards think foreigners are Americans that speak funny.

America has among the worst public schools in the developed world.

Americans should adopt the socialist models of the rest of the world which includes a centralized curriculum, well paid teachers, small classrooms, standardized text books, and no local curriculum oversight of schools by parents.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/8601207.stm

In 2006, Finland's pupils scored the highest average results in science and reading in the whole of the developed world. In the OECD's exams for 15 year- olds, known as PISA, they also came second in maths, beaten only by teenagers in South Korea.

The Finnish philosophy with education is that everyone has something to contribute and those who struggle in certain subjects should not be left behind. (But social promotion is frowned upon by right wing kooks).

A tactic used in virtually every lesson is the provision of an additional teacher who helps those who struggle in a particular subject. But the pupils are all kept in the same classroom, regardless of their ability in that particular subject. (2 teachers!!!! Tea Party heads explode)

Teaching is a prestigious career in Finland. Teachers are highly valued and teaching standards are high. (High salaries means more taxes! Oh no!!!)

"Keep Your Goddamn Government Hands Off My Medicare!" - Various Tea Party signs.
