Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker, whose state has become the epicenter of the battle between the public sector unions and government, said on “Fox News Sunday” that his budget is a necessity after years of executives and legislators abdicating from their responsibilities. “For us, we have to do this. For decades, we had leaders who pushed off the problem.” I don’t know if the union members who are protesting outside the state capital realize that either they approve Gov. Walker’s budget, which means they have to put in some of their money to their pensions and benefits, or they can look at layoffs of up to 12,000 people. Things can not go on the way they are. The Republican law would make state workers contribute more to health insurance and pensions. It also would end government collection of union dues, let workers opt out of unions and require unions to hold recertification votes every year. Even liberal Joe Klein of TIME magazine said, Walker’s proposal is modest. The left has gone through great lengths to disguise the depth of the problem in Wisconsin by either saying the governor is flat out lying (which he’s not) or sending union members out their jobs and responsibilities at the cost of the children’s education. RB over at The Right Sphere even has video and accounts of doctors forging sick notes to excuse teachers from work. When asked about the Wisconsin democrats in hiding, Walker said: “[They] failed to do their jobs. If you want to participate in democracy, you’ve got to be in the arena, and the arena is right here in Madison, Wisconsin… My hope is that cooler minds will prevail and by some time earlier this coming week they’ll show up for their job. Democracy is not about hiding out in another state. It’s about showing up here in the capital and making the case there, and for us, we’re willing to take this as long as it takes.”
