Democratic lawmakers and unions in Wisconsin are rejecting the notion that civility is important in politics.
From WISN.com:
State Senate Majority Leader Scott Fitzgerald has ordered the Wisconsin State Patrol to round up Democratic state senators who did not show up when the Senate was called to session Thursday morning to vote on a bill stripping public employees of collective bargaining rights.
Republicans are pushing the bill proposed by Gov. Scott Walker. Thousands of people clogged the halls of the Statehouse for a third straight day in opposition.
Observers in the balcony shouted “Freedom! Democracy! Unions!” as Republicans tried to start debate.
Freedom, Democracy….Unions???
Governor Walker says “Bottom line, the state’s broke.”
But…they don’t care if the state goes broke, you see. That’s the problem here.
From Discover the Networks:
Because government workers get their money not from a free marketplace but from taxes, their unions have a large incentive to advocate on behalf of political leaders who support higher taxes and bigger government, which can, in turn, produce an ever-greater number of public-sector union jobs. As pollster Scott Rasmussen explained in the Wall Street Journal, “Public-sector workers want government to grow first, and the overall health of the economy isn’t as relevant to them.” This mindset translates into overwhelming public-sector union support for Democratic politicians who will block efforts to reduce government and to lower taxes. Indeed, public-sector union money constitutes the lifeblood of the Democratic Party.
And because union money is so important…Democrats in Wisconsin are going where the money is by not showing up for work.
Here they (the unions) are, in the video below, demanding basically, when it boils down, that the system go broke instead of their having to pay a 5.8% contribution to the pension fund…and most of them are paying nothing already….whereas most people who work pay more than 5.8%.
