Usually when someone casts doubts on Obama's professed Christianity, it's accompanied by a claim that the President is actually a secret Muslim. Yet Bill Maher thinks Obama is faking his religion to hide a different secret: his agnosticism.
Maher argued that Obama only pretends to be a Christian because it would be political suicide to say otherwise. Similarly, he said that Obama also feigns his opinions about other contentious issues like gay marriage to appear more centrist and thus boost his popularity.
"I think he's a centrist the way he's a Christian," Maher said on his program, Real Time. "He's pretending to be a centrist."
"His mother was a secular humanist and I think he is too," he added.
House Speaker John Boehner Sunday admitted that President Barack Obama is a U.S. citizen and a Christian, but he stopped short of accepting responsibility for setting the record straight with voters.
Mr. Boehner, a Republican, was asked by Meet the Press host David Gregory if he felt it was his responsibility to counter the widespread belief among U.S. conservatives that the president is a citizen of Kenya, and that he is a Muslim.
"I believe the president is a citizen; I believe (he) is a Christian," he said during the 'Meet the Press' interview. "(But) it's not my job to tell the American people what to think."
Political analysts say Boehner's middle-of-the road positioning on the issue allows him to skirt the ire of both independent voters and so-called tea party conservatives. Independents, in large part, accept the president's citizenship and religious orientation. Tea party conservatives continue to believe, according to opinion poles, that the president is not eligible to hold his office due to his citizenship, and that he shares his father's Muslim beliefs.
The U.S. Constitution requires that the president be a U.S. citizen who was born on U.S. territory. President Obama's birth records indicate he was born in Hawaii.
"I believe the president is a citizen; I believe (he) is a Christian," he said during the 'Meet the Press' interview. "(But) it's not my job to tell the American people what to think."
Is there really supposed to be some point you're trying to make by posting this? What else is Boehner going to say on an MSM talk show?
