Susan Rice, President Barack Obama’s ambassador to the United Nations, will argue in a major address Friday evening that the U.S. should “strengthen” — not “starve” — the world body. The address is the first in a series of speeches — to continue this spring – making the case to the American people about why the U.N. matters to national security, and how it is being improved. House Republicans failed this week in trying to get $180 million in overpaid dues back from the United Nations. The effort was widely panned by New Yorkers in Congress as damaging to security. The ambassador will be speaking to the World Affairs Council of Oregon, in Portland. "The U.N. provides a real return on our tax dollars by bringing 192 countries together to share the cost of providing stability, vital aid, and hope in the world’s most broken places,” Rice says in prepared remarks. “Because of the U.N., the world doesn’t look to America to solve every problem alone. … We’re far better off working to strengthen the U.N. than trying to starve it—and then having to choose between filling the void ourselves, or leaving real threats untended.”

I agree. Here's something I posted to "We the People" just a few minutes ago, on another thread... While I was waiting, somewhere around 200 soldiers in Japanese army uniforms came walking through, straight off the plane... In BDUs, wearing patches that said "JAPAN," and "UNITED NATIONS." They were wearing the UN blue berets, as well. They formed up into several groups, and marched through the streets. My wife asked if any of them spoke English, and after talking to about 20 guys, one of them- an officer, it seems- asked what they were doing here...? He said they're on a 6-month tour here, before they go home. He never told us why they were actually here. Disturbing. Socialist ass-hats think "There will be no more money when the U.S. dollar has no value, until that time we can keep printing more." And yes, that IS from LF's answer to Ben Bernanke, go65, leading disfunctional and delusional socialist of the forum. What does the U.N. actually do other than the occasional "peace keeping" mission in some third world hell hole??? They are impervious to any reform. The composition of the "Security Council" is a WWII relic that makes no sense at all today because it excludes the third and forth largest economies on earth (Japan and Germany) as well as the most populous country on earth (India). Corruption is rampant. The U.S. shoulders a disproportion share of the cost as measured either by population or GDP. Unless serious reforms are made, we pull should pull out and tell them to move their headquarters elsewhere.
