Feb. 10 (Bloomberg) -- President Barack Obama said the U.S. will do everything possible to promote an orderly transition of power in Egypt. “What is absolutely clear is that we are witnessing history unfold,” Obama said in Marquette, Michigan, where he was highlighting his plan to expand high-speed Internet access in the U.S. “It’s a moment of transformation that is taking place because the people of Egypt are calling for change.”
The president was briefed on developments in Egypt aboard Air Force One on his way to the event.
Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak plans to address his nation tonight, Egypt’s state-run Al Masriya television reported. A spokesman for his Cabinet said in Cairo that the Egyptian leader will decide “within hours” whether to step down.
