Wow!

I've been a Zeppelin fan since the early 70's, but had no idea about this band. I just read about them on wiki.

This second song was much better than the first, imo. I heard shades of Zeppelin in it.

Thanks for posting this.

I love all kinds of music. I'm partial to the heavy stuff (Ozzy, Dio, etc). I also love traditional Americana. I like some of the Avant-garde stuff too.

This is really cool. There is a Japanese influence, along with a banjo (the only instrument invented in America), being sung by a Brit! Love it!

If you go to his website there are a couple of other songs offered for free listening that have "shades of zeppelin" in them.

He is coming to Louisville April 5 or 6th I think. I might go see him

Kind of shows you the awful state of radio, music companies that the front man of Led Zep has an acclaimed new group but even long time fans don't know it unless they actively run across it.

It seems in the age of the Internet some information gets lost? You can also blame the music companies for a poor business model and the fact that radio has been taken over by a handful of corporations so there are few independent radio stations in big markets that can bring new trends forward.

This does sound a lot like the Led Zep unplugged sessions. It seems Plant really fell for that unplugged sound and played with it since then and this new effort is the result.

Wrong again. The music companies are providing what their customer base wants, hip hop/rap crap. Most music buyers are under 30,and that is the crap the under 30 buyers listen to. People with genuine musical talent are out there producing good music every day,but you have to search them out because they aren't being pushed.

There are a few like Lady GaGa that does have amazing talent, but even she has to have a gimmick to sell records. Her self-promotion talents match her musical talents,or nobody would have ever heard of her, either. Even then I have no doubt a lot of her fan appeal is based more on her costumes than on her musical ability.

Here are two female singers that are perfect examples of what I am talking about. I say "female" instead of "women" because the first one was only 14 years old when this video was recorded. How a 14 year old can look like that and put that kind of emotion into a torch song is a total mystery to me,but there it is for all to see and hear.

How freaking scary was THAT?

The second one is a young woman who is in her mid-20's.

Thanks for posting these sneakypete. Damn, you have a good ear for this music. I actually would rather piss on a spark plug than listen to metal music. I'm not knocking it, to each their own; but it harshes my mellow way way too much.

Take a listen to how this Dread locked lovely who went from being a Subway busker who at best worked small bars with her bass player to nearly winning American Idol and getting a record contract did Frank Sinatra's Summer Wind. Tell me what you think. I love it, though this 25 year old child of the 21st Century seemed to miss Frank's touch of sadness to it.

I was pleased though she could do this music so well, she was way out of her comfort zone.

Are you defending the big music companies and the big radio owning companies for just supplying what the market wants?

Well, then thanks for admitting the free market is stupid and does not work.

At least in the late 60s and 70s you still had independent radio stations or radio stations that allowed disk jockeys to program their own music based on their own tastes.

Most music buyers by the way are not under 30 - they are not buying music anymore the younger yiu get thansk to the internet file sharing.

Most musicians make their music in live performances now anyways.

I have not listened to the radio - outside of news radio to get the weather - in years. When I do listen to the radio the rock stations only play the classics which I have heard a million times.

Well satellite radio does have celebrity disk jockeys where the celebrities pick their own music.

It does seem that the FM radio early days from what I read were sort of unique and inspired the "WKRP in Cincinnati" tv show.

Nowadays, WKRP would be owned by Clearchannel or another conglomerate and not an individual.

Also, to give some TV history, Star Trek only became a huge show in syndication because an independent UHF television station bought the syndication rights for cheap and ran the show in creative ways and that made it into a cult show in the 70s and then a huge cultural phenomenon.

If that independent TV outlet did not exist and if almost all TV stations were owned by big corporations they would have buried Star Trek because it was a failure when it first aired on network TV.

That's why I advocate that no company can own more than one FM, one AM, one TV and one newspaper in any given market - even in the age of the internet.

Are you talking to me? I hate the radio, and find music stations tedious.

I got into Crystal by accident going over to one of those friends we all know who think it's OK to leave the TV on with guests over. It was the first time I'd seen the show, find it incredibly boring, but liked her and Siobhan Magnus who was eliminated before Bowersox. I found Crystal not of AI mold and love her original stuff, her subway busker roots. I find her voice very enticing.

I listen to live music and used to follow the Grateful Dead around the country for a good part of quite a few years. The music industry is bullshit,

I like people who are not mainstream. Here is one I really like, it's a real modern American Anthem:

James McMurtry "We Can't Make Here" Anymore

I saw him this Winter here in Eugene, he was awesome. Listen to it Godwinson, you'll love it, he is a nationwide cult classic.

Well, I looked at this in another browser as it is your thread Stonie, and I have to to see you as you are on bozo. I was responding to Pete's post, then to Godwinson's posts.

Threads, especially music threads often take on a life of their own. I have you on bozo because of your childish and boorish graffiti of that article posting I did the other day.

I sure don't mind showing consideration which is better do with someone not on bozo, but I don't want to see your posts because you are childish, tamper tantrum prone and you ask consideration from me you don't reciprocate.

I did not insult your little Death Valley Days TV show moderator, Stone, yet you had to act like I did. You are on bozo until whenever.

But I will get off your has been rock dinosaur thread. As I sure don't want to make work for your wife by making you soil your nappies over what I post.

"Bozoing the moderator is a no no."

I don't. I bozoed you. I can pick up any of your scant attempts at moderation by accessing another browser and skimming quickly for you doing that function.

Unlike you Stone, I know how to comport myself in a forum.

Let us go back to your graffiti-ing of those two threads the other day - one of which was mine.

You have a forum here with the operational modes of freedom of speech, unless you mis-interpret something, or don't like something and on top of that, you are capable of doing anything in response including changing returning bannee account names into highly disgusting and obscene verbiage.

I pay attention, Stone, and my memory of your antics is clear. And what you do tells me not to pander to you and to not pull punches in my criticism.

You are not a focused, consistent moderator. Believe it or not, I had no trouble not molesting posts I thought disgusting at DU when I was a volunteer mod there, because I learned how to follow guidelines while in the U.S. Army.

I could do it here by your standards, or at Free Republic by their standards.

A moderator is supposed to figure out what is allowable before they moderate and avoid how emotions of the moment move the bar. Being moderator is not just doing what the hell you want to do.

I have been called a pro Israel hack for leaving posts I disagreed with and removing those I liked at DU for example by posters who took umbrage to what I did.

It is a job. If a moderator has feedback on standards, that is something altogether different than moderating. That is done later and if you are overruled, so it goes.

Seriously you should moderate for someone else just to give you experience that will help you not be so inconsistent and governed by your emotions when you do this job. Just a fact, nothing personal in this.

And I don't put on airs here, I just have experience. I know people with more experience than I who do a better job than I do because they have a natural talent for this.

I am temperamental by nature just like you are, and I had to grow up and learn to count to ten and control myself before I act so I would do the job right.

You can easily be a very decent moderator, you have the potential, but you don't want to work on doing a better job, and your ego sometimes keeps you from being open, or learning.

Just take what I say as food for thought and get feedback like I just gave from other people. People are always willing to help you Stone. You just have to swallow your pride - as I learned to do doing this - and to make learning more important than posturing or feeding the ego. OK, I'm off the damn soap box.

Are you defending the big music companies and the big radio owning companies for just supplying what the market wants?

Uhhhhhh, yeah. Ain't providing your customer base the function of a successful business? I realize that doesn't jib with your socialist reality where the government dictates what the people want and should be allowed to buy,but it's the way things are and should be.

Well, then thanks for admitting the free market is stupid and does not work.

Thank YOU for admitting you are incapable as understanding something this basic. Which,of course,is why you hate free markets. The idea of people running around free to make up their own minds scares the hell out of you.

At least in the late 60s and 70s you still had independent radio stations or radio stations that allowed disk jockeys to program their own music based on their own tastes.

Did you grow up in some kind of "home"? Or possibly some sort of commune or socialist country? You HAVE to be divorced from reality to think station owners allowed DJ's to play whatever they want.

Most music buyers by the way are not under 30 - they are not buying music anymore the younger yiu get thansk to the internet file sharing.

Really? So you think it is people over 30 buying shit by people like Piddly Diddly, fiddy cent, and the other losers that dominate the air waves?

Well, one thing I will say for James McMurtry; his Dad said he'd pay for College if he had a say in the classes his son took. James worked as a Waiter, cleaning and many lowly jobs to earn his own money for school to keep his autonomy.

I wouldn't be too quick to write of him as a slacker. He's very bright and fiercely independent like his dad is. (His Dad is proud of his success with writing and playing music too I might add. ;-)

Ok,so what is your solution?

No entity can own more than one AM and one FM radio station, one TV and newspaper in any given market.

That works for me,but it will have the Tan Klan and the La Raza crowd screaming bloody murder. IIRC,the way it is set up now they are guaranteed 13 radio or tv stations due to skin color, and if they don't have enough money to buy them, the government will give them the money to buy them with as a grant.

Of course, they aren't all in one market. What sense does it make to compete with yourself?

That's how a black minister ended up owning a ABC affiliate and several radio stations in the Norfolk,Va,area. One radio station,a classic rock station that was the most popular radio station in the area was turned into "the black spot on yore dial" by switching to a "urban" format and firing ALL the white station employees except for the janitor and replacing them with people who barely spoke English. The Rev-Rund/Bishop even took out a two page spread in the local paper to publish photographs (no mug shots, though) of all his new employees.

All the white DJ's and other station employees ended up finding jobs on other local stations. Some had been at that station for over 20 years before being fired for having white skin.

The same Rev-Rund/Bishop also ended up owning his own bank, thanks to federal grant money to promote minority biznez. In less than two years it was closed down because bank regulators couldn't find over 6 million dollars in customer deposits, and nobody was even charged with a crime. The federal government paid off all the depositors who had lost their money,so they had nothing to complain about.

Man, I try and have a legit conversation with you and you bring it back to some kooky racist conspiracy. Lesson learned.

The FACT that you still "think" that is some sort of conspiracy theory is proof you are incapable of learning anything.

It IS racist, though. It's racist because it is against federal law for a white man to own that many radio or tv stations, and because whites don't qualify for those special "minority loans" or grants.
