President Barack Obama says the passion and dignity demonstrated by the people of Egypt has been an inspiration. He says young protesters will reach their destiny. In brief remarks at the White House Tuesday evening, the president said, "We hear your voices." Obama's remarks came after besieged Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak (HAHS'-nee moo-BAH'-rahk) announced he would not seek re-election after 30 years in power. Thousands of protesters in Cairo and other Egyptian cities are demanding that Mubarak step down immediately. Obama ignored a reporter's question about whether Mubarak should leave now instead of waiting for elections in September. The White House said Obama initiated a call to Mubarak Tuesday evening and the two spoke for 30 minutes.

Every President who is a commander in Chief with military personnel who are Muslim and who has to uphold and defend the U.S. Constitution that permits freedom of religion as per the First Amendment speaks the same way about Islam and all the major religions of the world. President Obama is a Christian, and where he worships says better than anything else he is one. Pretty crazy rant, Stone. You make no sense here.

Quite a show of bigotry, Stone. So, you know all the Muslims in the military? I knew quite a few and they were decent people who care about this country and who love it enough to sacrifice to defend it. I also trained with foreign officers who are Muslims in Special Forces and found them to be very decent people who were a pleasure to know. You are foolish, and you have no cause to insult people who are or who have been in the role of protecting you, your family and the country you allegedly love.
By definition a muslim cannot be loyal to America. They are loyal to their god Satan. The Shah was right to keep their backwords asses down.

I learned the English language and appreciate everything this country has given to me. That's why I joined the Army. The U.S. is doing great things." These are two of the approximately 3,700 Muslims in the U.S. Military, Stone, and they are good folks. You need to get out and see and learn more about the country around you. I know many Muslims in Portland with whom I worked with at Portland Saturday Market, one of whom has a Jewish wife. Muslims by faith are directed to be loyal to the country they live in and call home. And Muslim Americans become as Americanized as anyone else who moves here. You might note one of the men in the quote converted to Islam. We will see more of that as well as more Muslim immigrants to the U.S. in the future. You can rant and insult all you want, but you are not going to change the way people are and how things will be merely by being bigoted against them and wishing them the worst.

Colonel Burpee's path to both Islam and the military is not necessarily typical. With blond hair that is now going gray, he was born in America and raised Episcopalian. He converted to Islam when he was 19 for a very American reason: "I met a pretty girl" - an Egyptian woman named Hala who was a fellow student at the University of Southern California in the late 1970s. Three years later he was accepted at the Officers Candidates' School in Quantico, Va. Now he and Hala and their five sons live in Glendale, Calif.
