Former Alaska governor Sarah Palin offered her thoughts on President Obama’s State of the Union address to Fox News’ Greta Van Susteren Wednesday night, and while she cleverly zeroed in on the unfortunate abbreviation of the speech’s “Win The Future” theme, Palin’s analysis quickly went rogue with reality. Despite her proximity to its launch site, Palin displayed ignorance of Sputnik 1’s significance (both in the speech, and in Soviet history), and offered a bizarre non-prescription for America involving something called “Spudnuts.” We need more spudnut moments in America. And I wish that President Obama would understand, in that heartland of America, what it is that really results in the solutions that we need to get this economy back on the right track. It’s a shop like that.

Big bleeping deal! She wasn't even born when Sputnik was launched,and what the HELL does living next to Russia have to do with it? Is she supposed to have a understanding and appreciation of Russian cultural history because she now lives in Alaska? Are people in Iowa supposed to have an appreciation and understanding of serial murder because they live next to where John Wayne Gacy operated? Or maybe the author of this piece thinks everybody in Flori-Duh are rocket scientists because of the Space Center there? I gotta admit that the whole "Spudnuts" thing is a total mystery to me,though.

It's a donut shop that primarily sells to the 11,000 federal workers cleaning up the nearby Hanford nuclear testing site. The federal government is its biggest customer. Apparently, like in most other things, Palin was unaware.

Seriously. Hanford got $2 billion in stimulus funds to clean up the site. Ironically, they are laying off 1,600 people soon as stimulus funds are running out. Hopefully Spudnuts donut shop survives when its government-paid clientele goes away.
