United States News Title: “View” Lefties Can’t See Why Child Porn Might Be a Problem The smug certainty with which leftists insist that they’re better people than conservatives has always been an interesting phenomenon. We’re asked to believe that our opponents are more moral, more responsible, more enlightened, and more sensitive than we are one minute…and one of our betters turns around and asks what the big deal is about some outrageous case of moral degeneracy the next. Such is the case of the latest pontifications from The View co-host Joy Behar. In a discussion of Skins, the new MTV show which might have broken child pornography laws by filming actors as young as 15 performing explicit simulated sexual acts, Behar suggested that the only reason people are getting worked up is because of the channel it’s on: “I think it’s because it’s MTV, because on HBO as you pointed out, I believe ‘Oz’ was on there and they’re all doing some crazy stuff … and ‘Sex in the City’ was on HBO,” Behar said. “What’s the difference if you’re watching all these grown-ups talking about all of these — anal sex, etc., or young people? What’s the difference?” Correct me if I’m wrong, but I’m pretty sure laws against producing child pornography don’t say, “nobody can do this except for HBO.” Whoopi Goldberg dismissed concern as a mere construct of America’s more Puritan sensibilities: [T]he English have a whole different relationship to how young people are dealt with. I mean, that’s just the way it is. It is a different thing and sex does not have the same bizarre-ness that it carries in the U.S. America must be weird for having a problem with this; English standards couldn’t possibly be wrong! Gotta love cultural relativism. Barbara Walters, however, managed to explain the difference to her colleague: “There’s two differences,” Walters said. “One – it’s targeting kids. It’s a huge difference. And the other is that they’re also saying is it is underage kids that are doing this.” Walters is right as far as she goes, but she doesn’t go nearly far enough. The main answer is that the controversy isn’t merely about minors “talking about” sex. It’s about minors performing suggested sex acts on screen. Does Behar have any conception of why child pornography is illegal? (I’d do more research into whether or not she’s opined on the issue in the past, but the prospect of Googling a combination of the terms “joy behar” and “porn” is too terrifying to contemplate.) And even if you take out the crime and porn angles, there’s still the problem of the message’s content. We can’t expect to raise well-adjusted adults by simply keeping them ignorant of adult subject matter, but at the same time we have to be aware of how impressionable they are, and of what values we’re endorsing. Studies indicate that the human brain isn’t even fully matured until age 25, and prior to that point their performance tends to be inconsistent in the following categories: • Decision making • Use of appropriate judgment • Rational thinking • Integration of emotion & critical thinking • Ability to think clearly about long-term outcomes that stem from behaviors • Global thinking vs. self-centered thinking These are precisely the traits that are needed in order to responsibly evaluate sex—whether or not instant gratification without long-term commitment is what you really want, whether or not temporary pleasure is worth the risk of pregnancy and STDs, whether or not you’re ready to handle the responsibilities of pregnancy or fatherhood, whether or not you know your would-be sex partner well enough to determine his/her trustworthiness, etc.—and they’re the very same traits mostkids, in the absence of strong values reinforcement, are lacking in. On January 21, NewsRealBlog’s Paul Cooper explained how Skins is sending and reinforcing the most dangerous signals possible: One of the stars of the show has already admitted that watching the Brit version of the show was “an inspiration (for her)…to act rebelliously as a teenager.” Now the teen actress is playing a “sex-mad” girl. The show typically portrays sex in the most damaging ways. It teaches young boys that sex is to be a 24/7 craving that needs to be fulfilled by any means possible. And one family therapist told ABC News how much worse it is for girls. “The girls concern me even more because if you look at the kind of sexuality that’s portrayed its often in fact not mutual, it’s about girls feeling they need to service boys in order to keep them. I think this a direct, in some ways, backlash to the empowerment of girls. I think we need to stand up to it and have our daughters stand up to it and do what they feel comfortable with.” We’re living in an age where incredibly degenerate moral values are being celebrated, taught, and defended, but the alarming number of advertisers MTV is losing over this (“‘Skins’ could reportedly lose MTV up to $2 million per episode”) suggests America hasn’t completely lost her ability to draw lines in the sand. Somebody should tell that to Joy and Whoopi.

You don't have to teach teenage boys that. It's called hormones. And why are you watching young teens making out?

Joy Behar doesn't have any idea of why she gets wet when it's raining. This woman makes the late Anna Nicole Smith look like Sartre by comparison. She is so stupid she was FIRED from her school teacher job by the city of New York. Even the union couldn't save her. The show typically portrays sex in the most damaging ways. They follow it around everywhere they go. it’s about girls feeling they need to service boys in order to keep them. Duhhhhh! The same thing happens with 30 year old married women,dummy. If you don't put out he is going to find somebody that will. And he SHOULD unless you have some sort of medical problem. I think this a direct, in some ways, backlash to the empowerment of girls. Losing power,the ability to use sex as a weapon to punish and reward,is what she fears. Mostly the ability to punish.
