ST. LOUIS -- Bristol Palin will be the keynote speaker during Washington University's annual "Sex Week" activities in February. The university's campus newspaper reports that Palin was selected and approved by the Student Union Board. Palin, the oldest daughter of former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin, caught the country's attention when she became pregnant at age 18. The pregnancy was announced immediately after her mother was named as the Republican vice-presidential candidate. Now 20, Bristol Palin is an advocate for sex abstinence programs.
The St. Louis, Mo., university hosts Sex Week each February. In previous years, keynote speakers have included TV doctor and "Loveline" host Dr. Drew.
The student union board reportedly approved $20,000 for the keynote event, though it's not clear if all of that is going to Palin for a speaker's fee.
The first Sex Week took place on the campus of Yale University in February of 2002. Since that time many of the nation's premiere universities have adopted the annual event, which is described as "an interdisciplinary sex education program designed to pique students’ interest through creative, interactive, and exciting programming."
Washington University's Sex Week 2011 runs February 7-12.
