At one time, Cuba had a healthy economy and then came socialism. It got so bad that Cubans have risked death in small rowboats to get to the shores of capitalism and all it offers. There is no middle class, only the poor and the wealthy ruling class. Cuba is now laying off about 500,000 government workers. After 50 years, socialism is failing right on schedule. In North Korea, citizens are starving; there is no middle class, only the poor and the ruling class. The only way for that government to survive is to rattle sabers and hope the U.S. will offer foreign aid again so it behaves for a while. After 65 years of socialism, it's failing right on schedule.
In the USSR, there was no middle class, only the poor and the ruling elite. After 70 years, the system collapsed and socialism again was a failure, right on schedule.
In the European Union, socialist nations all of them, one by one, they're all going down the tubes. Greece, Spain, Portugal, Ireland all cannot provide the promises made to the citizenry. Since Greece was given a bailout, all the rest will demand the same that is, until the next handout is needed. Seeing the error of its ways, Britain is laying off a half-million government workers. After 55 years and high tax rates, socialism in Europe is a failure, right on schedule.
After 60 years under socialism, China was a nation living in the past but since it decided to dabble in capitalism, China is the world's emerging economic power. Socialism collapsed right on schedule.
The U.S. has dabbled in social programs for 60 years and is now on the brink of financial disaster. As socialist nations are trying to break away from socialism, the U.S. is going head- first into socialism. Go figure that one, if you will.
