You are correct. Some people were screaming for me to be banned,but then Robin restricted me to 3 posts a day by mistake,and then realized she had made a mistake and put me back up to 10 posts a day. Since there were more than 10 people there ratpacking and making multiple posts to me there was no reason for me to go back because I couldn't respond to their attacks with just 10 posts. Unless of course I surrendered and begged for forgiveness for being rational. One post would do that.

I was banned from the Huffington Report after posting ONE post. I didn't even last that long as Salon. Seems like they had a watch on my screen name. I registered,got the approval,and then got the message "this screenname is banned" when I went to make my first post. BTW,I am NOT banned at the People's Forum. I just don't post there because I am limited to 10 posts per day,and it is impossible to respond to all the attacks on me with just 10 posts. And to be completely truthful,I probably wouldn't post there anymore even if I had full posting privileges. As I have written right here on this thread,I no longer have the patience needed to deal with admitted socialists and various other forms of Euroweenies.

It may have been on July 7th. One of my friends over there was (he's dead now) a professor at a local university,and he had to be the biggest gun nut I have ever met in my life. The first time I met him in person was when I was invited to dinner at his house,and after dinner he plops a big book down on the dining room table and says,"So,tell me what guns you have." When I started out with Browning Hi-Power,he said something like "Oh,yes! That is page 936!" and opened the book to that page so we could discuss it. He knew the exact page number of every gun I mentioned. When I asked him why a gun freak like him only owned a pellet gun instead of a real gun,he got serious and told me "It may be a trick! They might tell you this now to sucker you into buying one,and then change the law in a few years and then arrest you for it!" Vladimir grew up with a father that was a Major in the KGB,and tapped his own phone to make sure nobody in his family was doing or saying anything that could get them into trouble. Paranoia wasn't a mental illness for people who grew up in the old Soviet Union. It was a survival trait. BTW,I MAY be wrong,but I SUSPECT you might have to become a Russian citizen before they would allow you to buy or legally possess a weapon there.

The Mrs. and I will be discussing this issue (among others) when she gets back from vacation. (I don't get "real" vacation, because all of my time off is for my studies.) Anyway, we've thought about this quite a bit... IIRC, you can get a permit to have one, provided you know someone, and have sufficient funds to make sure everything goes smoothly. But as you mentioned, things could always change. I've seen some of the Russian 9mm pistols- I wasn't impressed. My wife would like to have an XD or a P89-94 Ruger, but the question is always *how?* I won't live anywhere that I can't own firearms- which is why I recently turned down job offers in Boston and D.C. This is one area that is non- negotiable. :-|

That's for tourists coming into Russia to go hunting,not resident aliens living in Russia or for Russian citizens. There was an attempted bank robbery in Russia about a year after Yeltsin took office that I remember reading about in the St.Petersburg Times. A bank robber came into a bank in one of the smaller cities and when he stuck his gun in the face of one teller,another teller picked up her Makarov and shot him in the head. The response of the local police chief was "Good shooting,huh?",and he did mention she had a legal right to own the gun.

I would say everyone seems to be getting along pretty darn good for an alleged dive bar. Quite the catchy slogan. As Communism is the masses running things in joint ownership, it does bring up images of how much a joke something can be if it is horribly convoluted being designed by committee, and when power is in a few hands a state can move on something really quickly and outflank any competition. This is not something I quite agree with, but it gives food for thought, thanks.
When I was in the Army at Ft. Bragg, N.C. or my S.F. Guard Unit in Utah they thought of me as a flaming lefty, and many of my friends and acquaintances here in Eugene, OR think of me as more rightie than is good for me.
