Congresswoman Gabriella Giffords is ready to roll, she is even starting to use her iPad. She boarded a plane Friday to fly to Houston, where she will enter a special treatment center. Hundreds greeted her as her ambulance left Tucson for nearby Davis Monthan Air Force Base. "We love you Gabby," said one of many signs, the Arizona Republica reported.
Mark Kelley, Gifford's husband, waved through an open window to a group that included Republicans and Democrats.
She flew to Houston in a plane called Challenger. Kelly is an astronaut.
"GG going to next phase of her recover today. Very grateful to the docs and nurses at UMC, Tucson PD, Sheriffs Dept....Back in Tucson ASAP!" her husband, Mark Kelly, wrote Twitter early on Friday.
Dr. Peter Rhee and Tracy Culbert, a nurse, both from the University of Arizona Hospital traveled with her.
Given that she was shot in the head her quick recovery of her senses is seen as remarkable, proving once again that brain damage can be treated.
