When Jared Lee Loughner opened fire on a group of Representative Gabrielle Giffords’ constituents, it was not on the orders of anyone specific, but it was after more than two years of demonization coming from within the Right that had been largely ignored and rarely denounced from within the Conservatives of the United States. Right now, there is a push to mitigate the damage done to the Conservatives by Loughner’s actions, but it is not likely to succeed. The extreme and violent rhetoric has been seen to have come from the Right, and the American public are not going to be dissuaded from saying that enough is enough.

That it took the deaths of six- including a nine year old girl- to bring this nation to this point is horrific. Now the question is, was this act by Loughner a Kent State or a Fort Sumpter?

There are those on the Right who are trying to push back. They are trying to link Jared Lee Loughner to the Left using often flimsy evidence and Glenn Beck talking points. Mark Potok of the Southern Poverty Law Center feels that it may be difficult to directly link Loughner to the Right, but his rhetoric is that of the Right.

Yesterday, LGR looked at how Loughner’s beliefs matched up with those of Ron Paul on the Gold Standard, and various people on the Right with regards to the PC Thought Police. I forgot one detail- the destruction of the Contitution.

For as much as the Tea Party and the Right wants to wrap themselves up in the Constitution, they do a good job of advocating the repeal of much of it. For instance, this from Talking Points Memo regarding the repeal of the 17th Amendment:

The “Repeal The 17th” movement is a vocal part of the overall tea party structure. Supporters of the plan say that ending the public vote for Senators would give the states more power to protect their own interests in Washington (and of course, give all of us “more liberty” in the process.) As their process of “vetting” candidates, some tea party groups have required candidates to weigh in on the idea of repeal in questionnaires. And that’s where the trouble starts.

How about the attempt to repeal all or part of the 14th Amendment? Here is an interview between TPM and John McCain:

TPMDC asked, “Do you support the Minority Leader’s push for hearings into the repeal of birthright citizenship?”

“Sure, why not?” McCain said briefly.

“Do you support the idea itself?”

“I support the idea of having hearings,” McCain said.

“Do you have a problem with the 14th amendment?” another reporter asked.

“You’re changing the constitution of the United States,” McCain said. “I support the concept of holding hearings.”

“I support the concept of holding hearings,” McCain repeated, turning to the rail car conductor.

“Let’s go!” he snapped.

“I don’t have anything to add to that.”

While many who advocate for these ideas know that it is impossible to really repeal those, and it would be a major mess to do so, there is always that one mind who thinks that if it does not happen, then they government is not listening, and violence is called for. Potok of the SPLC was quoted by TPM as having said:

“When you look at the Internet material he purportedly produced, the first impression you get is that the 22-year-old now in custody for the shooting of 19 people in Tucson was completely out of his mind, or at least mildly deranged. His writings will be virtually impossible for most people to understand, what with his references to unexplained numbers, his fondness for weird syllogisms, his unexplained references and his apparent semi-literacy.”

“At this early stage, I think Loughner is probably best described as a mentally ill or unstable person who was influenced by the rhetoric and demonizing propaganda around him. Ideology may not explain why he allegedly killed, but it could help explain how he selected his target.”

The rhetoric has been to the extreme, and it has caused so many problems. While there has been some of this on the Left, often that has been condemned and squashed within hours or a day of it having been said. LGR played its part in putting a lid on the extreme rhetoric and calls for violence within the LGBT Community.

Those on the Right did not give the order, but they played a part in creating a situation where this happened. The reason why it was hard- impossible in fact- for the Right to blame Al Gore for the shooting at the Discovery Channel’s headquarters is because he never used militaristic rhetoric to defend the need for global climate change legislation the way that the Right have used it to defend their beliefs in the destruction of the Constitution, the return of the gold standard, and the abolition of the ‘PC Thought Police’.

There is a perception now that those who are violent on the Right have the tacit blessing of their side while those who are violent on the Left do not.

If the Right wants to make amends now, the best thing is to change the rhetoric, tone it down, and discuss these issues like a rational person.Lez Get Real Subscribe to *Tea Party On Parade*

Wrong again, pinhead. Are you trying to set a new record for being totally wrong the most times in 24 hours? If so, you can quit because you've already done it.

"Jared Lee Loughner was a registered independent, didn't vote in 2010 election By Chris Cillizza

Suspected Tucson gunman Jared Lee Loughner registered as an independent voter in Arizona in the fall of 2006, according to the Pima County Registrar of Voters.

Loughner registered to vote on Sept. 29, 2006, identifying himself as an independent. Records show he voted in the 2006 and 2008 elections but is current listed as "inactive" on the state's voter roles -- meaning that he did not vote in November.

The political affiliations of Loughner, who is being charged by state and federal authorities with the shooting of Arizona Rep. Gabrielle Giffords (D) as well as 19 other victims outside a Tucson grocery store on Saturday, have become the subject of a white-hot partisan debate in recent days.

In the immediate aftermath of the shooting, liberals sought to paint Loughner as an anti-government, tea party conservative. Conservatives retorted that Loughner lacked anything close to a coherent political philosophy -- a case strengthened by subsequent glimpses into his personal life that suggests someone struggling with mental illness.

Loughner's decision to affiliate as an independent rather than a Republican or Democrat would seem to affirm the sense that while he targeted Giffords in the attack, it was not a decision born of a set of deeply held political beliefs that fit neatly into either party." http://voices.washingtonpost.com/thefix/house/jared-lee-loughner-was-a-regis.html

Correct! A liberal crazy went bonkers at a liberal/socialist political gathering. The political "left" needs to be scrambling to effect some damage control. Perhaps denial of the problem and blaming events on someone else is their way of doing that.

LOL. The leftist loons never give up.

Jared Lee Loughner said his favorite book was the Communist Manifesto.

His college classmates call him a left-wing pothead.

The last thing that Representative Giffords did was to vote against Nancy Pelosi for Speaker.

Who was actually killed? Among others, a Conservative Federal Judge.

Last year a left wing loon flew his airplane into a federal building in Texas. The left hastily tried to blame the “Tea Party” too. Wrong again.

Oh, and they tried to blame John Kennedy's assassination on the right too. Unfortunately, Oswald was Castro supporting left-wing lunatic who spent time in the Soviet Union.

The left commits violence and then they try to blame their opponents. Nothing ever changes. It's the way the world works.

Targeted two years ago by Hate Radio for death because of an immigration decision, and given federal protection because of it.

No?

Well, here it is anyway.

" U.S. District Judge John Roll faced death threats in 2009

Jan. 8, 2011 03:49 PM The Arizona Republic

The killing of U.S. District Judge John M. Roll comes two years after he received death threats while he presided over a $32 million civil-rights lawsuit filed by illegal immigrants against an Arizona rancher.

When Roll ruled the case could go forward, U.S. Marshal David Gonzales said in 2009 that talk-radio shows cranked up the controversy and spurred audiences into making threats.

In one afternoon, Roll logged more than 200 phone calls. Callers threatened the judge and his family. They posted personal information about Roll online.

"They said, 'We should kill him. He should be dead,'" Gonzales said.

In an interview with The Arizona Republic in mid-2009, Roll, who was the chief federal judge in Arizona, said both he and his wife were given a protection detail for about a month."

An Arizona man who has waged a 10-year campaign to stop a flood of illegal immigrants from crossing his property is being sued by 16 Mexican nationals who accuse him of conspiring to violate their civil rights when he stopped them at gunpoint on his ranch on the U.S.-Mexico border.

Roger Barnett, 64, began rounding up illegal immigrants in 1998 and turning them over to the U.S. Border Patrol, he said, after they destroyed his property, killed his calves and broke into his home.

His Cross Rail Ranch near Douglas, Ariz., is known by federal and county law enforcement authorities as "the avenue of choice" for immigrants seeking to enter the United States illegally.

Trial continues Monday in the federal lawsuit, which seeks $32 million in actual and punitive damages for civil rights violations, the infliction of emotional distress and other crimes. Also named are Mr. Barnett's wife, Barbara, his brother, Donald, and Larry Dever, sheriff in Cochise County, Ariz., where the Barnetts live. The civil trial is expected to continue until Friday.

The lawsuit is based on a March 7, 2004, incident in a dry wash on the 22,000-acre ranch, when he approached a group of illegal immigrants while carrying a gun and accompanied by a large dog.

Attorneys for the immigrants - five women and 11 men who were trying to cross illegally into the United States - have accused Mr. Barnett of holding the group captive at gunpoint, threatening to turn his dog loose on them and saying he would shoot anyone who tried to escape.

The immigrants are represented at trial by the Mexican American Legal Defense and Educational Fund (MALDEF), which also charged that Sheriff Dever did nothing to prevent Mr. Barnett from holding their clients at "gunpoint, yelling obscenities at them and kicking one of the women."

In the lawsuit, MALDEF said Mr. Barnett approached the group as the immigrants moved through his property, and that he was carrying a pistol and threatening them in English and Spanish. At one point, it said, Mr. Barnett's dog barked at several of the women and he yelled at them in Spanish, "My dog is hungry and he's hungry for buttocks."

The lawsuit said he then called his wife and two Border Patrol agents arrived at the site. It also said Mr. Barnett acknowledged that he had turned over 12,000 illegal immigrants to the Border Patrol since 1998.

In March, U.S. District Judge John Roll rejected a motion by Mr. Barnett to have the charges dropped, ruling there was sufficient evidence to allow the matter to be presented to a jury.

www.washingtontimes.com/n...ue-arizona-rancher/print/

He was a corrupt reconquista judge. Good riddance to bad rubbish.

The poor rancher Barnett ended up paying the illegal invaders $70,000, for the privilege of turning them over to the Border Patrol for deportation.

Probably a Ralph Nader independent, conceived in the back of a Corvair van. As boss of GM, hObama must assume full responsibility. He should have provided an abortion kit as standard equipment.

More likely a Conservative independent, you know, the kind that believes no candidate is Conservative enough - the Tea Party sort.

Nice try. Who did he vote for in 2008,and why was he mad at the Congresswoman?

Unless he tells us, we're unlikely to know - secret ballot and all.

He was mad at the government, the Congresswoman represented government to him.

Yes. In outlook and action I endorse the conservative lifestyle. What's the point in holding values if you don't live them? That's something you lefties cannot grasp. Being conservative means holding values above 'isms' to the point you abandoning the Republican party for it's departure from those values. Liberalism means jettisoning values that conflict with party boilerplate and tolerating everything to remain one of the Party faithful. It is the ultimate 'ism'.

Well, [war's] got to do something for attention, his multiple personalities aren't speaking to him any more, and his imaginary friends keep finding excuses not to come over.

Its a good thing to live according to one's values; its not such a good thing to demand others live according to them.
