Ariz. Congresswoman Giffords shot; Dad: 'Entire tea party' her enemy

Arizona Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords was clinging to life after a gunman shot her in the head in front of an Arizona grocery store where she was holding a public event, authorities said.

The three-term Democrat, who might have been shot at point blank range, was airlifted to University Medical Center in Tuscon where she was undergoing surgery, Reuters reported.

Nine others, including a child, also seriously injured in the bloody shooting spree were also being treated there, according to reports.

President Barack Obama said some are dead and Giffords was "gravely wounded." He called the shooting "an unspeakable tragedy" and that such "a senseless and terrible act of violence has no place in a free society.

The congresswoman’s father Spencer Gifford, 75, was rushing to the hospital when asked if his 40-year-old daughter had any enemies.

"Yeah," he told The Post. "The whole tea party."

He added that politicians constantly faced danger.

"They always get threat[ened]," Gifford cried. "We don’t really have any information. The Police department was supposed to call us but they didn’t."

The congresswoman was chatting up a couple during her first "Congress in Your Corner" event at the Tuscon Safeway when the maniacal gunman fired a fusillade of bullets at the crowd, reports said.

Giffords had excitedly promoted her event on Twitter.

"My 1st Congress on Your Corner starts now," she wrote. "Please stop by to let me know what is on your mind or tweet me later."

The gun-toting event crasher was tackled by a bystander and was taken into police custody, reports said.

"I am horrified by the senseless attack on Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords and members of her staff," House Speaker John Boehner said in statement.

"An attack on one who serves is an attack on all who serve. Acts and threats of violence against public officials have no place in our society. Our prayers are with Congresswoman Giffords, her staff, all who were injured, and their families. This is a sad day for our country."

The 40-year-old representative, who held her seat since 2007, held strong positions on immigration – a Arizona flashpoint issue.

It is yet unclear what motivated the shooter. Like many other democrats, Giffords was threatened after the passage of health care reform in March, when the door to her Tuscon office had been smashed. The congresswoman, who held her seat since 2007, was married to U.S. astronaut Mark Kelly.

This is why I keep several 12 gauge pump action shotguns throughout my house. If I am ever in public when a random shooting is happening I can use one. I'll just hop in my Hummer, go grab one, and then pump away.

"Yeah," he told The Post. "The whole tea party."

The "tea party" as a whole comes across as a group who loves liberty, our Constitution, and, America as defined by our Founding Fathers. Seems like you would have to be some kind of horrible person to be hated by "The whole tea party" enough to do something like this.

I think this guy is an idiot for saying such a thing.

It's not about facts, it's all about how you feel...

The victims FATHER said you teabaggers were her enemies. Really. If you could read, you'd see it right there in the article.

The picture I posted above was just to show how ridiculous a statement that was. You can see the baggers would never think of resorting to violence.

Here, Ruddy, here's another one.

For the last forty years political violence is the route the left takes, Skivvy. And you know that to be a fact. Weathermen, SLA, even the killer of your beloved messiah, John Lennon was a lefty. You called the tune in Chicago and have been true to it ever since. Even your commie president Slick Willy murdered those people in Waco. Offensive Christians minding their own business was a killing threat to Little Willie and Janet Reno.

I was ten years old then, Ruddy. I really didn't have that kind of power, so stop your stupid blanket attacks. All you need to know now is that Sarah Palin has taken down her site and is scrubbing if of any images of targets and politicians.

The loudest voices calling for violence now are on the right. It takes a lunatic to carry the violence out, since sane people realize there isn't much of a future in it, but it's the right screaming for blood. Look at the Tea Party pictures, listen to the loons on talk radio. Hell, just read what your pals over at LP post day in and day out.

But you align yourself with them, Skivvy. As far as calling for violence, Skivvy, you may be right. But those who resort to it are almost always lefties. Calling for violence is one thing and unjustifiable yet. Actually resorting to violence against elected officials is totally unjustified in this country and almost always the result of lefties taking the rhetoric to it's ultimate conclusion. Got it, Skivvy?

I align myself with no one. I hate them all.

I voted for Bush. Twice. I thought Clinton should have been impeached and that Janet Reno should have gone to jail over Waco. I don't care if you believe me or not.

My complete and total disgust with the political system comes directly from his administration. Obama is nothing but an extension of Bush, which is why I don't understand why people like you hate him so much. He's done nothing that Bush wouldn't have done.

All I want to do now is to save my ass from the crazies, and right now they're all on the right.

Don't leave out the crazy birthers and Orly Taitz, who are still drumming up all the hate they can muster against Obama. Something about a black guy being elected president has sent a lot of borderline cases completely over the edge. Having Talk Radio going at it 24/7 doesn't help, either.

Yeah, I've looked the at Bizarro land of rightwing websites where there are assertions that Loughner was a lefty, based on nothing more than the books he listed on his Myspace account or comments he allegedly made on incoherent Youtube videos or tweets from an alleged former classmate who said he was a leftist in 2007

Much of which could also easily be used to assert that his rampage was motivated by rightwing tendencies. I smell your fear, and dread as you vainly try to spin away from the obvious.

But it is a no sale to me and many others.

I'm not deflecting anything because I don't need to. This is from someone who knew him:

One user on Twitter, Caitie Parker, wrote she went to high school, college and was in a band with the gunman. She said she hadn't seen him since 2007.

Parker wrote of Lougher, "As I knew him he was left wing, quite liberal and oddly obsessed with the 2012 prophecy."

She also described him as "more left."

Lougher also left a trail of bold political statements.

On his now deleted MySpace page, Lougher wrote a series of disjointed rants, including:

*"If there's no flag in the Constitution, then the flag in the film is unknown. There's no flag in the Constitution. Therefore, the flag in the film is unknown. Burn every new and old flag that you see. Burn your flag!"

*"I bet you can imagine this in your mind with a faster speed. Watch this protest in reverse! Ask the local police, 'What's your illegal activity on duty?'"

*"If you protest the government, then there's a new government from protesting. There's not a new government from protesting. Thus, you aren't protesting the government."

Three months ago, Lougher made a YouTube video in which he proclaimed, "I know you're illiterate! This is the greatest protest for exposure into a wrongful act. The school is breaking the Constitution. If you watch the video then you'll understand. The teachers are taking advantage of you in the First and Fifth Amendment. The United States Constitution, which is the law, can be broken at this school."

This is what you are trying to deflect from. This will come out and all of those who have tried to liable the innocent will be held accountable in the minds of those who hold the truth in higher regard than party rhetoric.

Giffords had been violently targeted after she voted for healthcare reform; which is why Sarah Palin put crosshairs on her district in campaign literature on her website (a post that has subsequently been scrubbed)

Also Gifford's 2010 opponent, Jesse Kelly, once invited his supporters to "shoot a fully automatic M16" to "get on target for victory" and "remove Gabrielle Giffords from office."

We also all know that in the past few years it's been rightwing extremists who have most sought to shut down the open political process by disrupting townhall meetings and by indulging in language that casts political opponents as un- American and traitorous.

In other words, kid, fart elsewhere.

You don't have anything here but a fig leaf of bull shit that won't hide or protect the real source of this act of right wing terror, the tea fleas.

*"If there's no flag in the Constitution, then the flag in the film is unknown. There's no flag in the Constitution. Therefore, the flag in the film is unknown. Burn every new and old flag that you see. Burn your flag!"

it's pretty obvious the guy was unhinged, but I think the point you are missing is that we've heard a constant drumbeat from the right-wing threatening violence against political "enemies", and now, for some odd reason, they seem to be surprised that someone actually carried out a violent act against a Democrat.

Why would they be surprised?

I'm sure I don't care. It was Left on Left and no amount of spinning is going to change this miserable fact.

The sheriff thinks differently. I think I'll take his view over yours.

"The sheriff pointed to the vitriolic political rhetoric that has consumed the country as he denounced the shooting that claimed several of his friends as victims, including U.S. District Judge John Roll. The judge attended Mass on Saturday morning like he does every day before stopping by to say hello to his good friend Giffords.

"When you look at unbalanced people, how they respond to the vitriol that comes out of certain mouths about tearing down the government. The anger, the hatred, the bigotry that goes on in this country is getting to be outrageous," the sheriff said. "And unfortunately, Arizona I think has become the capital. We have become the mecca for prejudice and bigotry."

True enough. But the simple fact that in this particular the person involved was far left and unhinged. Yes the right threatens violence and it does nothing to advance their cause waving vulgar signs. In this case, however, the shooter was not from the right. Those who knew him say he was left of center. The whole flag/constitution is relativist babble that doesn't even seem to be driving toward a point. I included it because it underscores the shallowness of the commenter.

Giffords narrowly won her reelection in November over a candidate backed by the Tea Party.

She was targeted by Tea Terrorists because of anger over the economic crisis. The once-booming desert state was one of the places hardest hit by America's mortgage meltdown and foreclosure crisis.

She was targeted by Tea Terrorists because of rage over policies by Democratic President Barack Obama, namely his healthcare reform passed last year, and the rising national debt -- both issues that rallied conservatives in the last Elections, especially those tied to the Tea Party movement.

Conservative rage strong enough to spawn into terrorism has been building in southern Arizona for some time, somewhat around SB 1070, somewhat around healthcare reform.

So there is sometime rancor in a caucus. The DU was also angry as heck over Obama's extension of the Bush tax cuts too, but they are still going to support him when he is re-elected in 2012.

As I said, you really reaching on a out of context point is amusing, and not worth taking serious. But, you knew that.

Perhaps. Civics are not taught anymore because those who run the nations education system won't tolerate it. I'm sorry more adults don't take it upon themselves to read it. I'm betting more and more people are reading it these days.

You don't have to accept the federalist laws.

Federal law or the Federalist papers?

Nonetheless, read the United States of America's Constitution to apprehend all of the current treasonous laws.

No law can be passed that is in conflict with the US Constitution. Many laws are overturned as unconstitutional. How this is possible is beyond me since all proposed laws are hammered out in committee with an eye to constitutionality. If there are laws passed that commit treason, they are not legal. If this person thinks they are treasonous, it is up to him to prove with the help of a lawyer and not a gut shooting up a Safeway parking lot.

A week in tea party politics:

July 2, 2010—The Wyoming Department of Revenue suspends sales tax collections at the state's gun shows because of "increasing animosity" toward field tax agents. Dan Noble, director of the department's Excise Tax Division, cites one particular incident at a gun show that "crossed the line" and says, "We tend to have more trouble at gun shows than any place ... I have 10 field reps throughout the state, and every one of them has experienced some animosity ... I don't want to put my people at risk."

July 3, 2010—Joyce Kaufman, a conservative radio hosts on WFTL in Florida, tells a crowd of supporters at a Fort Lauderdale Tea Party event, “I am convinced that the most important thing the Founding Fathers did to ensure me my First Amendments rights was they gave me a Second Amendment. And if ballots don’t work, bullets will. This is the standoff. When I say I’ll put my microphone down on November 2nd if we haven’t achieved substantial victory, I mean it. Because if at that point I’m going to up into the hills of Kentucky, I’m going to go out into the Midwest, I’m going to go up in the Vermont and New Hampshire outreaches and I’m going to gather together men and women who understand that some things are worth fighting for and some things are worth dying for.”

July 6, 2010—Herb Titus, a lawyer for Gun Owners of America, tells Religion Dispatches, "If you have a people that has basically been disarmed by the civil government, then there really isn't any effectual means available to the people to restore law and liberty and that's really the purpose of the right to keep and bear arms—is to defend yourself against a tyrant." Titus goes on to cite the "totalitarian threat" posed by "Obamacare" and "what Sarah Palin said about the death panels."

Rep. Bob Filner (D) blames right-wing media for Giffords shooting

Source: press release just issued by Filner

Congressman Bob Filner (D-San Diego) issued a press statement remembering his fallen colleague. “Gabby Giffords is a good legislator and a good friend. We work closely together as U.S./Mexico border Congressmembers. We pray for her full recovery."

Filner faulted incendiary talk radio programming as contributing to a climate that may have encouraged today's violence. "I cannot help but believe that the violent context of the recent election is responsible for this tragedy," he said. "Many of us were physically threatened by those who believed they were “right” and we were “wrong” – we were “enemies,” rather than sincere people with different opinions. Their incendiary talk – given legitimacy by equally incendiary talk shows – make violence an acceptable political tactic. Violence as acceptable – bolstered by easy access to guns – made this tragedy almost inevitable. Let us all resolve to recommit ourselves to what is truly exceptional about America – that we conduct our politics with debate and respect, not violence.”

We are going to see the Tea Terror Group get the hosing they have long deserved for their baitful and hateful way of doing political advocacy.

It is going to suck to be them for quite a while to come, maybe right up until the next election cycle plays out.

And it couldn't happen to a more deserving bunch. They will reap what the have sowed.

Those liberal assholes at Daily Kos appear to be culpable.

Has Daily Kos sponsored rallies promoting gun ownership to protect themselves from government, suggested second amendment remedies, held an event to to "Get On Target For Victory In November. Help Remove Gabrielle For Office. Shoot a fully automatic M16 with Jesse Kelly."?

Right wing nuts seem to be scrubbing their web sites of violence promoting evidence; what they're not doing is taking any responsibility for normalizing violent ideology in our culture. Like you, they point a finger at Democrats and whine "he did it too" (so much for the party of personal responsibility).

Left on Left crime. The next big thing. Sorta like those Bolsheviks creating trouble in 1917.

Soon, this will become very obvious. Those political "left" types, advocating socialism or Marxist ideals, have to be emotional misfits. A rational person would not adopt a political dogma that has proven to be an abject failure throughout the history of this planet. Those, in this country, embracing Marxist ideals can not argue their case from the point of our Constitution or the words of the Founding Fathers, all they can do is spit hate and demonize those who can.

It only follows that these emotionally unstable types become disillusioned with their chosen socialist administrators and turn on them. They see those administrators amassing wealth while their lives become more difficult. Other than a mental malady, how could one explain these people not realizing that socialist societies end with the corrupt administrators absconding with all the wealth leaving the majority of people in abject poverty.

I wish I came up with the response 'Liberalism is a mental disorder' since I think it is on target, but I didn't. I think the abandonment of classical education left the door open to the kind of magical thinking and immature relativist thinking that are the hallmarks of the Left all around the world.

This was left on left crime and you can ignore it at your peril.

The lefties will ignore it. Facts which contradict their preconceived opinions are always ignored.

No. Yesterday's shooting showed the world what Democrats are capable of. And who the Democrat party embraces. Like FRED PHELPS, for instance. That fundamental disconnect with reality is the common tread uniting all Democrats, commie Red or Blue Dog.

As far as violent, anti-government seeds, I leave that to the revolutionary left. You people take it far beyond rhetoric. Ask the Weathermen and the SLA.

You merely spread hateful wedge issue material hoping people get a patsy up to the task of helping with some good old right wing terrorism. President Obama was born in Hawaii, is a U.S. Citizen, and worked hard to get to where he is today.

-New analysis of Democrat Party's official 2008 Certification of Nomination for Obama reveals that reasons for his sudden trip to Hawaii in October, 2008 was to visit more than just his sick grandmother. Hawaiian election laws and post-dated documents reveal he may have attended a hearing with Hawaiian Chief Elections Officer regarding his disqualification from ballot due to lack of certified Constitutional eligibility.-

Honolulu, Hawaii - At the center of the war over Barack Obama’s illegitimacy as president are a series of deep seated, unanswered questions about the detailed involvement of several municipal employees and officials within the government of the State of Hawaii. From former governor, Linda Lingle’s convenient deniability to former Health Department director, Chiyome Fukino’s intentionally misleading statements about Obama’s vital records. From the blatant dismissive ignorance of Hawaii’s legislature about the difference between "U.S. Citizenship" and "Natural-born citizenship", to the claims by a former Honolulu senior elections office clerk that the State of Hawaii does not possess an original, 1961 Certificate of Live Birth for Barack Obama, the State of Hawaii has emerged as the primary co-conspirator in keeping Obama’s identity a well kept secret from the American people.

Now, however, a new investigation of Hawaii’s Election Commission and the laws used by the state’s Office of Elections to approve or deny candidates for inclusion on presidential ballots raises shocking revelations about the power held by too few unaccountable people. The evidence shows that agents, working within the jurisdiction of state law, opened shadowy legal channels enabling Obama an opportunity usurp presidential power and assault the Constitutional sovereignty of the American people.

Recall, over the past two years, we became familiar with the controversy over the Democratic National Committee’s submittal of two separate sworn Official Certifications of Nomination (OCON) for Barack Obama, containing different legal language. One version of the OCON was sent to the Hawaiian Office of Elections while another version was sent to the other states' Election authorities. Not only was this deceitful and a covert maneuver by Nancy Pelosi and DNC to sneak Obama's unverifiable candidacy onto Hawaii's presidential ballot, it arguably violated Constitutional election law affording each state with the authority to grant or deny candidacy based on their own standards. Most people would never know that this very act enabled the Chief Elections Officer of Hawaii to invoke an obscure law and approve Obama's inclusion on the Hawaiian presidential ballot...even though he was not constitutionally eligible to be on the ballot.

The Official Certification of Nomination (OCON) is a legally required document submitted by each party's officials in every state prior to each presidential election. It affords the Chief Elections Officer in each state with the documented legal assurance that the candidates seeking inclusion on their particular state's ballot are indeed certified to be constitutionally eligible to serve the office they seek. The DPH's OCON was submitted to the Hawaiian Election Commission, led by Cronin, for approval of the placement of Barack Obama and Joe Biden on the 2008 Hawaii Presidential Election Ballot.

Compounding this controversy, in August, 2008, only two months before the election, the Democrat Party of Hawaii’s (DPH) chairman, Brian Schatz, now serving as the Lt. Governor of Hawaii, refused to include legally required, explicit language in its sworn Official Certification of Nomination (OCON) that Barack Obama was indeed legally qualified to serve as President under the provision of the U.S. Constitution. As a result, the Democrat Party of Hawaii refused to legally certify Barack Obama as that state’s Democratic nomination for President of the United States.

This was not some prudent effort to prevent the inclusion of an ineligible candidate on the Hawaiian presidential ballot. As this investigation shows, it was done to protect the political careers of Schatz and the DPH while relying on more inane, anti-constitutional Hawaiian statutes to clear the way for Obama's candidacy.
