HANOVER, Md. -- Officials are investigating possible explosions at the Maryland Department of Transportation's headquarters in Hanover and a state government building in Annapolis. 
Fire crews respond to the situation.
u local: Send Breaking News Photos, Video Firefighters and hazmat crews were sent to the MDOT building in the 7200 block of Corporate Center in Hanover shortly before 1 p.m. Thursday.
A source has told 11 News that two packages exploded, one at the MDOT building and another at the Jeffrey Building on Francis Street in Annapolis. The source said when the packages were opened in the mail rooms of the buildings, a small explosion happened.
Sky Team 11 Capt. Roy Taylor reported that at the MDOT building, most workers were allowed to leave except for those on the fourth floor, which is where the package was opened.
Taylor said seven people were injured, and one person requested to be taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
He said the explosion wasn't considered serious enough to cause bodily injury and that hazmat crews were trying to figure out what the substance in the package was.

Meanwhile, state agencies have been advised to not deliver or open any mail.
In Annapolis, resident John Koontz, who was on Francis Street when the situation began, told 11 News that the street was completely closed off and that only emergency crews and a bomb squad are coming in and out of the Jeffrey Building.
He said the package that exploded was described to him as being about the size of a box that you might get personal checks in from the bank.
Koontz said some people were evacuated from the building. There is still no word on any injuries.
The Maryland State Police have taken the lead on the investigation. Maryland Transportation Authority police also involved.
