I have always admired RP's loyalty to the Constitution. His NAY vote on Rosa Parks, and Arnold Palmer getting a medal, was the right thing to do. This particular situation of the 9/11 first responders getting their medical needs met, should be an exception IMO.
The EPA lied to them and told them that the air was safe to breathe, and they are dying because of their exposure to it.
I for one, don't mind paying for this. Hell, we've already bailed everyone else out, why not the guys who jumped in to help their fellow man. I'd much rather give money to these guys than those ******** at Goldman Sachs.
I feel that this was an opportunity for RP to break from his usual stance on the Constitution, and make a powerful statement on behalf of the ones who were lied to, and are now dying because of it.
This was an opportunity to make a statement about the criminal negligence (at best) that led to the events of 9/11.
This was an opportunity to talk about how many of the unconstitutional wars, loss of liberties, and deaths that have resulted from 9/11.
This was an opportunity to speak about how the majority of the 9/11 commissioners have gone on record, and called the investigation a fraud.
I generally agree with most everything RP does. I have to respectfully disagree with his decision on this issue.
