American voters were quizzed on their knowledge of issues and facts raised in the 2010 midterm elections, in a survey by World Public Opinion, a project managed by the Program on International Policy Attitudes at the University of Maryland.

Respondents were also asked where they get their news from: Fox News, MSNBC, CNN, newspapers, network TV news, public broadcasting.

The survey found that "substantial levels of misinformation were present in the daily consumers of all news sources." But Fox News viewers were significantly more likely to be misinformed than those who get their news from other sources. And, greater exposure to Fox News increased the degree to which viewers were misinformed.

This is not simply a matter of partisan bias. People who vote Democratic and watched Fox News were also more likely to be misinformed than those who did not watch it – though by a lesser margin than those who vote Republican. Those who got their news from NPR, CNN, or MSNBC were better informed on most – but not all – of the issues in the survey.

We've presented the 11 questions just as the survey asked them. How well informed are you?

- Eoin O'Carroll

Question 1 of 11

Is it your impression that most economists who have studied it estimate that the stimulus legislation:

Saved or created several million jobs

Saved or created a few jobs

Caused job losses

Though the Congressional Budget Office (CBO) concluded that the stimulus legislation has saved or created 2.0-5.2 million jobs, only 8% of voters thought most economists who had studied it concluded that the stimulus legislation had created or saved several million jobs. Most (68%) believed that economists estimate that it only created or saved a few jobs and 20% even believed that it resulted in job losses.

This is a joke. The CBO said it saved those because the CBO predicted it would save those jobs. That's right. That's like a weatherman predicting rain and claiming it rained when it was bright and sunny.

Stimulus Jobs Count: CBO Admits It Ignored the Economy’s Actual Performance

• Though the CBO concluded that the health reform law would reduce the budget deficit, 53% of voters thought most economists have concluded that health reform will increase the deficit.

Excuse me? This is what the CBO concluded:

CBO: Obamacare = at least $109 Billion in Deficit Spending Over 10 Years; UPDATE: Former CBO Director: Obamacare Deficit will be $562 Billion over 10 years

Then there's Obama's own deficit commission:

Obama’s Deficit Commission Concludes That Obamacare Adds Significantly To The Deficit

Though the Department of Commerce says that the US economy began to recover from recession in the third quarter of 2009 and has continued to grow since then, only 44% of voters thought the economy is starting to recover, while 55% thought the economy is still getting worse.

Since unemployment just increased again to 9.8, it's pretty hard to swallow the economy is recovering based on what the Kenyan's Dept of Commerce isaying.

Though the National Academy of Sciences has concluded that climate change is occurring, 45% of voters thought most scientists think climate change is not occurring (12%) or that scientists are evenly divided (33%).

LOL. Climate change occurs constantly. It's just detestable to blame it on humans and use that as an excuse for redistributing wealth.

Other key points of misinformation among voters were:

40% of voters believed incorrectly that the TARP legislation was initiated under Barack Obama, rather than George Bush

It happened at the end of Bush's Presidency and Obama fully supported it.

31% believed it was proven true that the US Chamber of Commerce spent large amounts of money it had raised from foreign sources to support Republican candidates

If 31% of Fox viewers thought this, you can be 80% of MSNBC viewers believe it.

54% believed that there were no tax cuts in the stimulus legislation

None were touted and if you personally didn't see any tax cut, it's understandable you would believe it.

86% assumed their taxes had gone up (38%) or stayed the same (48%), while only 10% were aware that their taxes had gone down since 2009

See above.

53% thought that the bailout of GM and Chrysler occurred only under Obama, though it was initiated under Bush

It was under Obama that the ugly union takeover occurred.
