United States News Title: Michael Moore vs. WikiLeaks: “SiCKO Was Not Banned in Cuba” In 2002s Red Dragon, a prequel to Silence of the Lambs, FBI agent Will Graham lures a killer called The Tooth Fairy out from hiding by leaking an offensive profile to a tabloid reporter. Enraged by his public characterization as impotent and pathetic, The Tooth Fairy targets the reporter as his next victim. A similar snare has lured the odious Michael Moore out from whichever rock he resides under between deceitful documentaries. Over the weekend, a story broke regarding his 2007 film SiCKO. A WikiLeaks revelation indicated the film had been banned in Cuba. Several blogs and mainstream media sources ran with the story. Enraged by his public characterization as impotent and pathetic, Moore stood to correct the record. In so doing, he added credence to his well-established role as communist propagandist. Sicko had just been playing in Cuban theaters. Then the entire nation of Cuba was shown the film on national television on April 25, 2008! The Cubans embraced the film so much so it became one of those rare American movies that received a theatrical distribution in Cuba. I personally ensured that a 35mm print got to the Film Institute in Havana. Screenings of Sicko were set up in towns all across the country. Pay attention, because this may be the only time I ever write this. Michael Moore is right. Indeed, when you pause to consider it, the idea that Cuba would ban a Moore film ought to have been considered suspect. After all, hes on their side. Consider the disposition required to take pride in a totalitarian regime embracing your film. What kind of sycophant pines after the distinction of being among the few a dictator will allow to speak? Its not as though we needed any more evidence of Moores moral and intellectual bankruptcy. Nevertheless, here we have it. But the bigger issue here is how our government seemed to be colluding with the health insurance industry to destroy a film that might have a hand in bringing about what the Cubans already have in their poverty-ridden third world country: free, universal health care. Thats a bigger issue than why an American filmmaker is colluding with a totalitarian state to distribute anti-American propaganda? Destroying SiCKOs credibility is simple enough without the aid of cloak and dagger subterfuge. Were Moore a better tactician, he would have leveraged the WikiLeaks story to suggest communist dictators dont agree with him. Alas, like The Tooth Fairy, Moores sociopathic megalomania is too dominant a force for him to bear the shame of having been censored by an American enemy. Now that youve been presented with the facts, what are you going to do about it? Are you gonna attack me for having my movie played on Cuban state television? Or are you gonna attack me for not having my movie played on Cuban state television? You have to choose one, it cant be both. Well gladly run with the former, Michael. Forgive us for ever doubting your place in the annals of communist Cuban history.
