You are a hoot Mike.
Like most leftards you can't grasp the inanity of your position.
Cutting spending is just not in your vernacular....sigh...but.....uhhhh....get used to it Mike.
Take a look at our shrunken GNP juxtaposed to the latest round of entitlements to hordes of lazy ass "me me me me" people, criminal companies and evilly war machine perpetuating milindustcomplex and the reality of the "jig being up" might just dawn on you.
Gotta roll off the spending spending spending binges Mike.
Reagan grew the debt and we are paying for it now http://zfacts.com/p/318.html.
Starting with Reagan, it was the Republicants that drove UP the debt. Fact. History.
The debt increased under Reagan due to voodoo and trickle-down economics. Reagan overspent on the military and cut taxes to the richest folks in the U.S. Bush I kept these policies intact, a continuation of voodoo economics. Bush II started 2 wars (not one 2) that we couldnt afford and we couldnt pay for. Under Bush II, we had fiscal failures that lead to the Great Recession. To Bushs II credit he tried to prop up the banks but spent even more doing it. So, yes, the Republicants did drive up the U.S. debt they are responsible (oops irresponsible
The 1980 U.S. Senate elections coincided with Ronald Reagans election to the Presidency. Reagans large margin of victory over incumbent Jimmy Carter pulled in many Democratic voters and gave a huge boost to Republican senate candidates.
The Republicans gained a net of twelve seats from the Democrats, the largest swing since 1958, and gained control of the Senate, 53-46. Majority and minority leaders Robert Byrd and Howard Baker exchanged places. This marked the first time since 1954 that the Republican Party controlled one of the Houses of Congress. The Democratic party did not win back the Senate until 1986. Learn your history.
The U.S. House election, 1980 was an election for the United States House of Representatives in 1980 which coincided with the election of Ronald Reagan as President. Reagans victory also allowed many Republican House candidates to secure election, and the Republicans gained a net of 35 seats from the Democratic Party. The Democrats nonetheless retained a significant majority, unlike the Senate where Republicans gained control of the chamber. Many Democratic congressman from the south (known as boll weevils) frequently took conservative stances on issues, allowing Republicans to have a working majority for most of President Reagans proposals during his first two years in office.
Under trickle-down economics,[19] due to the significant cuts in the upper tax brackets. There was a massive increase in Cold War related defense spending that caused large budget deficits,[20] the U.S. trade deficit expansion,[20] and contributed to the Savings and Loan crisis,[21] In order to cover new federal budget deficits, the United States borrowed heavily both domestically and abroad, raising the national debt from $700 billion to $3 trillion,[22] and the United States moved from being the worlds largest international creditor to the worlds largest debtor nation.[23] Reagan described the new debt as the greatest disappointment of his presidency.[22]
Reagan GREW government, he doubled the Social Security Tax (from 7.2 14.4 %), and almost bankrupted the government. His deregulation got rid of unions without LOWERING costs, and he ruined air traffic control in this nation, made truckers poor without lowering shipping costs by beefing up railroads, and cost us a lot more than he saved by giving us the Savings and Loan Crisis.
But propaganda works, and his inquisitive worshippers have been taught by the same corporations that still lie to them today and screw them with more work, shifting the costs of pollution, education and health care onto their backs, and by outsourcing their jobs. They are too damn ignorant to know that Reagan started the war on the Middle Class the war on drugs and the war on terror were just the puppet show.
