Former Alaska GOP Gov. Sarah Palin had to deal with a bit of a surprise during her trip to Iowa on Thursday -– she had to talk to the press.
Her encounter with a CNN crew was brief, but Palin's camp made clear she didn’t appreciate the surprise.
While Palin signed copies of her new book during her second trip to Iowa in recent weeks, a CNN reporter shouted out: “Gov. Palin, are you any closer to a decision on running for president?”
Palin did not respond and the reporter was then asked by a Palin aide, “What are we doing?”
“I was just going to ask her one question,” the reporter responded to the aide standing off camera.
After the aide made clear that Palin was not available to the media, the reporter then shouted his question again.
This time, Palin appeared to hear the shout over the blaring country music. The former governor turned to the cameras and spoke up.
“Am I doing interviews?” Palin asked, as her aide is heard saying, “No.”
“I thought I got to talk to the nice people,” the former governor protested. “And where's our music, and where's our good enthusiasm?”
As Palin continued to sign books, the reporter asked again if she is “any closer” to making an announcement.
“Not any closer,” Palin responded. “No.”
Thursday's run-in with the press occurred in Spirit Lake, Iowa, a small town in the northwestern part of the state, just south of the Minnesota line. Palin's 16-city book tour ends today with stops in Cincinnati, Oiho, and Columbia, S.C.
