House Republicans To Axe Dems’ (Nancy Pelosi) Global Warming Committee

House Republicans will dissolve the special committee set up by Speaker Nancy Pelosi to study global warming, they said Wednesday.

“We have pledged to save taxpayers’ money by reducing waste and duplication in Congress. The Select Committee on Global Warming — which was created to provide a political forum to promote Washington Democrats’ job-killing national energy tax — was a clear example, and it will not continue in the 112th Congress,” said Michael Steel, a spokesman for House Minority Leader John Boehner, Ohio Republican.

Boehner is set to become Speaker of the House when Republicans assume control in the new Congress next year.

A Republican aide said eliminating the committee will save roughly $2 million a year.

Pelosi spokesman Drew Hammil criticized the decision to end the panel that the outgoing Speaker set up when Democrats took power in the House in 2007.

“It is very disappointing that the House Republican leadership has decided not to prioritize addressing energy independence and climate change in the 112th Congress,” Hammil said. “Disbanding the select committee does not diminish the urgent need to act on these very critical issues.”

Hammil said that “since the committee’s creation, Congress increased vehicle fuel efficiency for the first time in 30 years, made the largest investment in clean energy in the nation’s history, and the House passed sweeping climate change legislation.”

“The Select Committee held dozens of hearings and briefings to educate members and the public on the efforts of the Congress. In addition, the Committee played an important role in holding BP accountable after the Gulf oil rig explosion and ensuring that the public had access to all pertinent information about the resulting spill and cleanup.”

Global temps haven't risen since 1998. Which is why those backing this hoax changed it from 'Global Warming' to the even more ludicrous 'fight climate change'.

Obama's first all-by-his-lonesome budget, btw, calls for a $1.17 trillion deficit.

Long temperature cycles have been occurring since the beginning of time. The swings have been getting larger for 3 million years.

Temperature cycles have been occurring since the beginning of time. The swings have been getting larger for 3 million years. I pretty darn sure that there weren't any SUVs 3 million years ago.

True, climate has changed in cycles over millions of year. But there is no alternative explanation for the "current" rise other than increasing atmospheric CO2.

As I've stated countless times, all one needs to do to show that the current warming trend isn't due to manmade activities is prove that CO2 isn't a greenhouse gas, CO2 levels aren't rising, and human activity isn't contributing to rising CO2.

So far nobody has been able to prove any of the three.

Yep. And that's why it's amusing when you attack "others" for ignoring science.

Meanwhile, 2010 is so far the warmest year globally on record, despite the result of November's election.

You keep repeating that but you don't have evidence for it.

On the other hand, I have 5 million of evidence that points to long cycles of climate change. Over the last 500,000 years, the cycles have swung the temperature by as much as 8 degrees Celsius.

We've been in a warming period since the Little Ice Age (which occurred between the 16th and 19th centuries). Prior to that, the earth was in a warming period since the last major Ice Age 100,000 years ago.

There is plenty of evidence of all three points, need me to post it again?

-----

We've been in a warming period since the Little Ice Age (which occurred between the 16th and 19th centuries). Prior to that, the earth was in a warming period since the last major Ice Age 100,000 years ago.

The LIA correlated with a drop in solar activity and a rise in volcanic activity. Solar activity increased from the end of the LIA to the 1950's. Since the 1950's it remained steady, and actually "decreased" since the early 1970's. The current warming is happening despite this decline, an without change in volcanic activity.

Again, there's no explanation for the current warming other than rising atmospheric CO2 as a result of human activity.

The LIA correlated with a drop in solar activity and a rise in volcanic activity

Solar activity + volcanic activity + cycles in the earth's rotation, revolution and axis tilt (Milankovitch cycles) together cause temperature cycles.

There is a 41,000 cycle in the earth's axis tilt. There is a 26,000 year cycle in the earth's axis procession. There is also a 70,000 cycle in the earth's orbital inclination.

The observed climate cycles throughout history (the graph I posted) fit very well with these orbital periods. The theory has overwhelming support among astrophysics (who are real scientists, not glorified weatherman who called themselves "climatologists").

Unfortunately, Green is the new Red and power hungry politicians love the nonsense about man-made global warming because it gives then the ultimate excuse to control everything in the name of "saving the planet".

True. But none of those align with the the current warming trend. Solar activity has been declining, and there is no evidence that changes in rotation or volcanic activity are related to the current warming trend.

Again, the only plausible correlation is with rising atmospheric CO2.

We've never before measured a change as rapid as what we are seeing now over such a short period of time. If the trend we are seeing occurred over 10,000 instead of 100 years, there wouldn't be much to worry about.

Again, what is unique here is the "rate" of change, and the fact that there is no evidence of any other cause than rising atmospheric CO2.

We've been in a warming period since the Little Age. Nothing has changed. Look at the chart I posted again with very steep ups and downs in temperatures, especially towards the end of each cycle.

I already responded to you on that - the LIA was caused by a combination of a solar minimum and increased volcanic activity. Global temperatures are rapidly increasing since 1970 despite a flattening of solar output.

You still aren't offering anything that explains the rapid warming since 1970. Again, the simple fact is that the only explanation is rising atmospheric CO2.

Not according to most astrophysics. There is broad consensus that Milankovitch cycles align with changes in global climate.

You can repeat your nonsense all you want, but it flies in the face of 5 million years of evidence. People who actually understand science know this.

Obama already stopped the Global Warmers when he excluded the largest polluters.

'In the name of job creation and clean energy, the Obama administration has doled out billions of dollars in stimulus money to some of the nation’s biggest polluters and granted them sweeping exemptions from the most basic form of environmental oversight, a Center for Public Integrity investigation has found."
