Security Protest Could Disrupt Thanksgiving Travel Friday, November 19, 2010 The Associated Press By MICHAEL TARM Associated Press CHICAGO (AP) — As if air travel over the Thanksgiving holiday isn't tough enough, it could be even worse this year: Airports might see even more disruptions because of a loosely organized Internet boycott of full-body scans. Even if only a small percentage of passengers participate, experts say it could mean longer lines, bigger delays and hotter tempers. The protest called National Opt-Out Day is scheduled for Wednesday to coincide with the busiest travel day of the year. Participants are being urged to decline the scans, which take as little as 10 seconds. Instead, they would have to undergo a full pat-down, which takes much longer. That could cause a cascade of delays at dozens of major airports. Not all airports have the machines. And not all travelers are selected for scans.

All this ridiculousness is because democrats don't allow profiling. Israel has no plane hijackings and no groping stations. They screens for terrorists. We screen for weapons.

I think the protesters are going about this wrong, all they're going to accomplish is pissing off the passengers who want to get to where they're going for the holiday. jmo~

Air travel could hit a record low this Thanksgiving. There could be a lot more traffic on the highways. A loss of customers for the airlines will hurt the TSA a lot more, than the embarrassment of groping some guy in a kilt. JMHO.
That's true hondo, but many passengers are not going to see it that way, especially if they've never been pulled out of line and probed up and down, and treated like they were a criminal...

Duh! Those flying El Al are interviewed prior to every flight, in addition to being screened. You can expect to be asked about your religious beliefs, your travel plans, who you are meeting, where you are staying, etc. And if you want to fly out of an Israeli airport you should plan to arrive 3 hours ahead of time. The American public isn't going to accept that kind of system. And the staff necessary to implement it would be immense. Israel's busiest airport serves 9 million passengers a year. The busiest airports in the U.S. serve 40-60 million passengers per year. To be fair, Israeli's approach is far more focused on determining a profile of a likely terrorist (or unwitting courier) versus irradiating their flying public. You don't want to be an Muslim or Arab if you plan to fly out of an Israeli airport.
Thanksgiving Eve will be an infamous wonder to behold. The Message from Lisbon is being put together as I type this.

This protest will disrupt no ones travel except for the ones who take part. TSA will tell them, "OK, if that's what you want. Your choice." They will then be "pigeon-holed" to the side where everyone still in line can see them, and it will be patiently explained to them by smiling TSA agents that they'll have to wait their turn for the single agent doing the "enhanced" pat down, and they'll probably miss their flights. Then those still in line will be told that if they refuse the scanner, they can join the group of folks "over there" waiting for their "pat down", who will probably be missing their flights, while pointing out that those "choosing" the scanner will be on their way to grandma's house for Thanksgiving in no time. "Right thinking will be rewarded, wrong thinking will be punished." And the sheep will bleat their submission, Burma Shave.
