Heres handy rule of thumb: Whenever someone suggests that one side of the political debate has a monopoly on dangerous propaganda, they can be safely ignored. After a long explicit discussion of the propaganda used to incite the Rwandan genocide, blogger Digby arrives at this conclusion:
Right wing radio is hate radio. And Glenn Beck is [expletive redacted] lunatic. And they reach many millions of people every day. Will any of those people act? Well, they already have on an individual basis. But this daily ranting about the evil of liberalism and the inhumanity of liberals seems to finally be reaching some sort of critical mass in which those on the right who hear nothing but this sort of raving all day long have come to believe that liberals not liberalism must be eliminated. I realize that we wont have teabaggers running across the countryside lopping off peoples hands with machetes. But the sentiment that drives people like Beck and Limbaugh isnt all that different, even though the worst weve seen are spit spewing screamers at Townhalls and a few cases of head stomping and false arrest. So far. This cannot end well.
I think the takeaway here is that Digbys victim complex has resulted in delusions of hatred utterly unmoored to even the most hyperbolic comments ever uttered by Beck and Limbaugh. Try talking some sense into the guy, and hell probably react by suggesting that you really want her face-first against the wall when the time of purification is at hand, or some such nonsense.
The underlying problem is that some among Americas liberal minority cant accept that the majority oppose their positions for perfectly sane, rational political reasons. The big takeaway from this election should be that, for being resolutely anti-liberal and anti-political establishment, the Tea Party channeled its efforts into winning peaceful Democratic elections and succeeded overwhelmingly. The only place in America where liberals are in any danger is at the ballot box.
Yes, it was a contentious election season but Ill see Digbys unfortunate MoveOn stomping and raise him SEIU members beating a black man in a wheel chair and then denouncing their victim as an Uncle Tom. Politics doesnt always bring out our better natures, and no matter how much they portray themselves as self-righteous victims, liberals are no exception.
