The election result was really the worst-possible result for Obama's 2012 re-election prospects in part because Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid -- two much-hated Democrats -- aren't going anywhere. The Democrats held the Senate, and Reid held of Sharron Angle, so on that side of Congress, he's still the man in charge. And Pelosi wants to stay on as Minority Leader, though she's angered the NYT (!) editorial page, which has asked her to step aside. They claim it's because she's not a good communicator, and thus her skill set doesn't match the job, but that's not the real reason. The majority of the country voted for Obama, they're the only ones he should be worried about convincing.
No one is asking President Obama to "make some really good arguments," like this is law school. We're asking him to fight for something, anything at this point. Things are not going to get better until the President understands the problem. And he clearly doesn't.
Back in the real world, outside the hospital for ailing banks, it's harder and harder to get paid by anybody for anything, so the circulation of money slows in the everyday economy. Accounts receivable go unreceived. Payrolls can't be met. Pink slips are issued. Mortgages won't get paid. Credit card bills lie unopened on the kitchen table while the late fees, penalties, and other cockamamie charges rack up, and one day some suspicious looking fat men in mullet hair-doos and wife-beater shirts, with flames tattooed on their necks, show up with a tow truck and start hitching your car to it and you wonder for a moment how you managed to park illegally in your own driveway - wait a minute...! 8D

I found this when I did a little digging. When I was a kid we used to call these Guinea Ts - because the Italians wore them all the time, weather permitting. I guess that would be politically incorrect these days.

While we have no way to confirm or refute the validity of this statement presented by a supposed ATM business insider on Steve Quayle.com, it does bring up an interesting point regarding how banks may be conserving "petty cash." Of course, if this perspective is true, it validates concerns about bank capitalization, and explains the reason why the FDIC recently expanded insurance on checking accounts from $250,000 to infinity in an attempt to get Americans to put their money in their friendly naighborhood bank. In the House, moderate Democrats are terrified that Pelosi is still around. Liberal House members are generally in safe districts. If anything, they are afraid of primary challenges from the left. Yes, Democrats in the Senate have a big problem. 23 of them are up for reelection in 2012. Many of them are from red states, or states that swung heavily to the GOP this year. The Democrats could easily lose half of those seats.
