Conservative columnist and former Reagan speechwriter Peggy Noonan doesn't like people demeaning the Gipper's legacy, not even Sarah Palin, and not even if she's only talking about the former president's Hollywood career. She writes in her latest column of a recent incident in which Sarah Palin attempted to explain away a Karl Rove criticism over her "reality show" by drawing parallels to former president Ronald Reagan's silver screen career, including his roles in movies such as "Bedtimes for Bonzo, bozo or something": "The point is not 'He was a great man and you are a nincompoop,' though that is true," Noonan continues. "The point is that Reagan's career is a guide, not only for the tea party but for all in politics. He brought his fully mature, fully seasoned self into politics with him. He wasn't in search of a life when he ran for office, and he wasn't in search of fame; he'd already lived a life, he was already well known, he'd accomplished things in the world." Though Noonan's piece is not simply a jab at Palin, but rather a larger message about the real political significance of one's actions and accomplishments, as well as the necessity to "earn your way into politics," it's also worth noting that Noonan has never shied away from writing confrontational columns about the former Alaska Governor. From Palin's coming out party until her decision to step down as Governor of the Frontier State, Noonan has made it clear that she doesn't jive with the "mama grizzly" brand of politics.
Excuse me, but this was ignorant even for Mrs. Palin. Reagan people quietly flipped their lids, but I'll voice their consternation to make a larger point. Ronald Reagan was an artist who willed himself into leadership as president of a major American labor union (Screen Actors Guild, seven terms, 1947-59.) He led that union successfully through major upheavals (the Hollywood communist wars, labor-management struggles); discovered and honed his ability to speak persuasively by talking to workers on the line at General Electric for eight years; was elected to and completed two full terms as governor of California; challenged and almost unseated an incumbent president of his own party; and went on to popularize modern conservative political philosophy without the help of a conservative infrastructure. Then he was elected president.

Poor Peggy......Is Peggy Noonan Jealous of Sarah? Stewart Schwartz wrote a very enjoyable piece on Peggy Noonan’s obsession with Sarah Palin in American Thinker. You’re Peggy Noonan and you’re jealous. But it’s not the normal kind of jealous, the kind reserved for girlfriends who can squeeze into size 2 jeans. No, it’s the kind of jealous that hurts, that grabs your gut and twists, that has you howling with rage into your pillow in the middle of the night, screaming “It’s not fair” like a two-year-old denied another piece of cake. It is Sarah Palin jealous…and it is consuming you. You’re Peggy Noonan and you’re jealous. You are a card-carrying member of the intellectual conservative elite, a PBS-anointed expert on family values who worked for both Ronald Reagan and Dan Rather, a talented speechwriter and wordsmith. And you are fuming: Sarah Palin refuses to be yesterday’s news. You just can’t get her out of your mind. And, what’s worse, everyone continues to talk about her. You’ve tried everything, using your mainstream media platforms, your Wall Street Journal columns, and powerful friends — so many of them — to savage her, to give her a rhetorical beating so fierce that it would bring a smile to the face of Vince McMahon — if you knew who he is, and if you had ever watched a WWE wrestling match, which he heads. “She is a complete elite confection. She might as well have been a bonbon,” you wrote, your $300 manicured fingers shaking on the keyboard. A very enjoyable article. If you only read one thing today, make it this. Peggy Noonan when she was young and pretty vs. Peggy at 60. Her expiration date was about 25 years ago. Now, it’s about living in the past and trying to find a way to be relevant again. Peggy, there are intelligent life forms outside of Manhattan and the Beltway, not that you’d stoop to talk with them.
As we saw in 2008, Peggy Noonan says one thing publicly and then blurts privately what she really believes. Outside of writing speeches for Reagan 30 years ago, and then cashing in on it since...what exactly has this hypocritical bitch actually 'accomplished' on her own? Nothing anyone will remember 30 days after she dies is the correct answer.
Obama's first all-by-his-lonesome budget, btw, calls for a $1.17 trillion deficit.
Excuse me, but this was ignorant even for Mrs. Palin.
