(CNN) His unorthodox presidential campaign strategy fell flat in 2008, but former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani says he hasnt ruled out a second try in 2012. "The door's not closed, Giuliani told Politico on Monday night when asked point-blank if he still has his eyes set on the White House.
Hailed as Americas Mayor in the aftermath of the September 11 attacks, Giulianis campaign became a study in how not to run for president: Deciding to forgo seriously competing in the early voting states of Iowa, New Hampshire, and South Carolina - and instead focusing largely on Floridas primary a month later - Giuliani was ultimately viewed as an also-ran by the time Sunshine voters weighed in.
While still a national figure by all accounts, Giulianis presence in political circles across the country over the last two years has been significantly less than that of other Republicans considering a White House bid and its unclear if the former mayor still has a significant base of support from which to spring another presidential campaign.
