Independents Backing Republicans by Double-Digit Margin, Poll Shows

Published October 25, 2010 | FoxNews.com

Voters arrive to cast early ballots in Maryland's general election Oct. 22 in Baltimore. (AP Photo) Independents are flocking to Republican candidates, according to a new poll, signaling an important shift in the critical voting bloc that helped boost Democrats the past two cycles.

A Politico/George Washington University poll showed independents choosing Republicans by a 14-point margin. The survey showed those voters held a bleaker-than-average view of key Democratic policies -- 62 percent had an unfavorable view of the health care law, compared with 52 percent for all voters; 66 percent said the stimulus is not working, compared with 57 percent for all voters.

The movement continues a trend that started when independents began breaking for the GOP in the Virginia and New Jersey gubernatorial races and Massachusetts Senate race.

The surge in independent support boosts Republicans' chances with the midterm election, which is just more than a week away. Though the polls are tightening in a handful of races, Republican National Committee Chairman Michael Steele said Sunday he's confident the party can take control of Congress.

The latest poll showed Republicans leading Democrats overall by 47-42 percent.

The survey of 1,000 likely voters was conducted Oct. 17-20. It had a margin of error of 3.1 percentage points.

The Administration and Congress have spent the past 22 months ignoring the will of voters across the political spectrum. They've claimed anyone that objects to these policies are 'bigots' 'racists' and lately 'to stupid to understand'.

This swing of independent voters demonstrates just how dumb this Administration and Congress actually are to use the above as 'political strategy'.

8 more days, then they hear from us all.

Obama's first all-by-his-lonesome budget, btw, calls for a $1.17 trillion deficit.

Politico:

Our most recent POLITICO/GW Battleground Poll shows a generic congressional ballot unchanged from late September, with Republicans lacking the momentum they had hoped to generate over the course of the past month. This, despite the advantages of a highly engaged base, a change-oriented electorate (64% say we are on the wrong track) and a public image that is moderately net-positive (+7 favorable); these are all advantages that Democrats cannot currently claim. And yet, voters remain divided on which party would be better at creating jobs, at turning the economy around, at handling Social Security and on nearly every other dimension tested. In addition, while many voters have already forgotten the disastrous consequences of Republican governance a short time ago, they cannot volunteer a specific set of GOP solutions for the future. This suggests an opening in the last 10 days for Democrats to provide real definition to women and independent voters on what the future would look like — for American workers and for the country as a whole — with a resurgent Republican Party in Washington. The key to winning this election is for Democrats to clearly distinguish their economic and jobs agenda from the Republicans’ agenda.

Yep, we'll see if your prediction of a 70 seat gain in the House and control of the Senate comes to pass.
