Levi Johnston, the on again/off again fiance of Sarah Palin's daughter Bristol, is off to a rocky start in his wanna-be political career.
Johnston, the father of Bristol's son, Tripp, said in August that he intends to run for mayor of Wasilla or some other local office in 2011 in a campaign that could also be part of a reality show. But Johnston got a dose of another kind of reality during his appearance Monday on ABC's "The View."
Taking a page out of WomanUp's book of manners, host Barbara Walters told the Vanity Fair oversharer and nude model, "You became famous for impregnating a 17-year-old girl. You're 20 years old, you don't have a high school diploma yet, you don't have a trade. " Now you're running for mayor," she scolded. "Would it not be better for you, instead of seeking publicity, to learn a trade, to find a job, to get an education and support your son?"
If Johnston understood he was being called out, it didn't seem to bother him. He responded by handing out flowers to Walters and her co-hosts. What are his qualifications for serving as mayor of the suburban community? "You gotta live in the city limits for one year," he said.
When Whoopi Goldberg chimed in to ask about his political platform, Johnston said: "At this point in time, I couldn't tell you. I said I was running for mayor, what, a month ago?" Actually, it was three months back.
"Wasilla is a great place," he said of the town that Sarah Palin once served as mayor. "I just want to keep it that way for my son." For him, a political campaign would be "much more" that a reality show, he assured the panel.
