Guys and gals, here is a hot rod event and drag race in East Germany. This ain't the 1950's that East Germans remember, though! Pay attention to the gray 1939 Ford coupe at 6:35 and 9:40. I sold him the 3 carb 292 Ford Y-Block engine in it last summer. This was his first run after getting the engine and car together, and he is still working out the bugs. Not to mention learning how to drag race.
The car had a 327 Chevy engine in it when he bought it,but he wanted something more traditional, and decided on a Y-Block after hearing what they sound like and discovering they were more popular in the 50's than the Chevy engine was. They also beat the Chevy engines like rented mules.
Yup,you guessed it. I am a fan of Y-Block Fords. I'm putting a hotrodded 312 in my 34 Ford pickup. Mine is going to be the "E-Bird" version with the factory dual quads, big valve heads, and the modern copy of the old Isky cam that came in them in 1957. Which is the same cam the guy is running in that 39 coupe.

The last time I was in Germany I drove from Berlin to Heidelberg in 9 hours. That included a stop for lunch in Dresden. I was going 200 kph / 120 mph the entire way and that still wasn't fast enough to stay in the left lane on the Autobahn.
Of course, in the U.S. we suffered for decades with 55 mph speed limits on the freeway because of President Peanut head.
