Election day is just weeks away and the candidates are making their rounds on the campaign trail. Rand Paul stopped in Eastern Kentucky on Saturday for a meet-and-greet and pig roast.
A crowd of people greeted Republican Candidate Rand Paul when he stopped by Whitley County, but this wasn't his first time visiting the area.
"Got a lot of friends here. A lot of republicans down here and we're trying to motivate them and get them out to vote," Paul said.
He personally met with those who came out and he also addressed some of his main concerns.
"The unemployment, you know, 10% unemployment. The recession, and really, people think the government has grown too large. The debt has become enormous," he explained
Paul says if he is elected, he's ready to make some changes, especially regarding budget.
"I think Republicans and Democrats have done a poor job at cutting spending. Both Democrats and Republicans would be made better if we had a balanced budget amendment so I will push for an amendment to the Constitution to say they must balance the budget by law."
Paul says one of the main issues people are concerned with in Eastern Kentucky is coal.
"The president seems to be against the coal industry. The president said his policies will bankrupt coal. President Obama also said his policy will double the price of electricity and I don't think people in Kentucky, especially Eastern Kentucky, want that kind of policy."
He says thousands of jobs would be lost in this area if the coal industry gets shut down and he is hopeful that doesn't happen.
Paul also made his way to Somerset for a picnic with Congressman Hal Rogers.

I just live a few short miles from where he'll be, just across the border in the next county, so I may go and hear what he has to say. I can tell more by a person if I can see them up close, and look them in the eye..lol...
