United States News Title: Shooting Survivor: Hasan Yelled “Alla Akbar” And Then Opened Fire The first witness in a hearing that will determine whether accused Fort Hood gunman Maj. Nidal Hasan will stand trial for the deadly Nov. 5, 2009 shooting rampage on post testified Wednesday Hasan yelled Allhu Akbar and then opened fire. FORT HOOD (October 13, 2010)Sgt. Alonzo Lunsford, based at Fort Bragg, N.C., who survived the deadly Nov. 5, 2009 shooting rampage at Fort Hood, testified Wednesday accused gunman Maj. Nidal Hasan yelled 'Allhu Akbar' before he reached under his blouse pulled out his weapons, and started firing. (SCROLL DOWN FOR TRIAL BLOG) Lunsford was shot five times and was hit in the head during the rampage at the posts Soldier Readiness Center that left 13 dead and 32 injured. He lost most of his eyesight because of his injuries. He identified Hasan as the gunman. He testified that Mike Cahill, 62, of Cameron, who was among the 13 people killed, came out of his office when the shooting started with a chair over his head. He testified that as Cahill attempted to hit Hasan with the chair, Hasan shot him. The hearing will determine whether the Army psychiatrist stands trial for the deadly Nov. 5, 2009 shooting. Hasan is charged with 13 counts of premeditated murder and 32 counts of attempted premeditated murder in the worst mass shooting at an American military base. Civilian employee Michelle Harper, who drew blood from soldiers at the processing center, next testified that she had just returned from lunch and was talking to a friend when the shooting started. All of a sudden I heard something that wounded like firecrackers, she said. She said she went to see what was happening and encountered smoke and people yelling to get down. She said she behind a desk until the shooting subsided and then came out. When she did, she said heard a gunshot and saw a soldier who was standing nearby fall to the floor. She got back under the desk as the gunfire resumed and said she never saw the gunman fire. She said she could only see his slow, deliberate footsteps around the building. When the shooting subsided again, she said she got up and ran for the back door and into the parking lot to try to get to her car. As she ran, she saw Hasan exchanging fire with two Fort Hood police officers and saw one of them fall to the ground. Then, she said, I got into my car and hit reverse and drove away through grass and a ditch and between two barracks. She was on the phone with a 911 operator almost the entire time and as a recording of the call was played back Wednesday she was in tears with her head downcast. On the recording, crying, moaning and gunfire were clearly audible. Harper is heard telling the dispatcher: "Hurry, hurry, hurry please." The dispatcher tried to reassure her, saying: "They're on the way, sweetheart." Col. James L. Pohl, the military judge presiding over the hearing as its investigating officer, ordered the playback stopped and asked whether Harper needed to remain the courtroom as the recording was played. The third witness, Latoya Denise Williams, a data entry clerk at the center, also said she heard what sounded like firecrackers. She testified that someone called Attention, and seconds later she heard a pop, pop, pop. I was like, is this a drill, it's pretty elaborate if it is, she recalled, but she quickly realized it wasnt as she turned, saw smoke and then ran in search of somewhere to hide. She turned and saw smoke, and then ran for somewhere to hide or take cover. She said she threw herself to the floor at the end of a cubicle around which several soldiers also crowded. Asked what she did then, she said simply, Prayed She and the soldiers with whom she took cover eventually made a run for the door. As the hearing resumed Wednesday, Pohl made no mention of the request the defense submitted Tuesday to delay to the proceeding until Nov. 8. The hearing was recessed Tuesday after the defense sought the delay. Before the recess Tuesday morning, a military officer denied a defense request to close the hearing. Dozens of witnesses are expected to provide eyewitness accounts of the terrifying attack over the next few weeks. Hasan was wounded in an exchange of gunfire with two Fort Hood police officers that left him paralyzed from the waist down and confined to a wheelchair. A person came up to her at her desk, and told her that she was needed by Major Parrish for an emergency. She identified Major Hasan as the individual that came up to her and told her that. After he told her there was an emergency, she got up and walked to Major Parrish's office. Someone called Attention and within a matter of seconds she heard pop, pop, pop I thought it was firecrackers. I was like, is this a drill, it's pretty elaborate if it is. realized it wasn't a drill She turned and saw smoke, and then ran for somewhere to hide or take cover. Major Parrish's door was locked. Threw herself to the floor at the end of a cubicle that she indicated on the diagram that's in the courtroom. (We can't see the diagram here in the overflow courtroom) Several soldiers crowded around her behind the cubicle Asked what she did then: Prayed Asked what happened then: Someone said Hey he's coming this way. Her and the other soldiers made a run for the door. Defense then cross-examined Was asking about her medical care and conditions since the November 5th incident. 2nd witness Michelle Harper Worked at the SRP site on fort hood in the lab. Draws blood for soldiers deploying and returning from deployment. Came to work at 830 am Came back from lunch at 12pm Was talking to her friend Jessica. All of the sudden I heard something that sounded like firecrackers. She went to see what it was and there was a lot of smoke and people yelling to get down. She ran and hid behind the desk at station 12. I was under the desk, and people were on top of me. Gunfire continued while she was hiding. She called 911 while she was under the desk. Shortly after hiding under the desk. Came out from under the desk, saw a soldier standing and heard a gunshot and the soldier fell. She hid back under the desk. Saw feet go by the desk underneath the desk. Never saw the shooter firing the weapon, heard the gunfire. Once the gunfire subsided. I got up and tried to make my way, and I made my way through the back door. Once outside, ran to the parking lot, ran behind some cars, trying to get to her car. I heard the gunfire battle between him and the officer. I see Hasan shoot the officer, and him fall to the ground. After she saw the cop get shot. I got into my car and hit reverse, and drove away through grass and a ditch and between two barracks. She was on the phone with 911 the entire time. Audio of the 911 call was played. You can hear people crying, moaning, and then gunfire on the recording. You can hear someone moaning right next to her on the recording. Judge stopped the playback and asked if there was any need for the witness to be here while that was playing. To clarify, she never saw Hasan shooting while inside the building, she saw him once she had left the building. She saw Hasan shoot the female officer. The testimony is chilling to say the least. Thinking about it, I'm very glad this punk will be requiring 'infidels' to use the crapper for the rest of his life, in prison.
