A driver talks on a mobile phone as he sits in traffic along a main road in central Beijing October 12, 2010. China, which overtook the United States as the world's largest auto market last year, has been a major bright spot for sales as the global industry struggles to recover from a steep downturn. But the market has been slowing since May as Beijing took measures to keep the economy from overheating. Industry observers expect the recent upturn in demand to extend into October and even into the winter months as many people would rush to buy cars, worrying that Beijing may scale back or even scrap its policy incentives in 2011. LONDON, Oct. 12, 2010 (Reuters) — China has become the world's largest energy user, having overtaken the United States, the head of the International Energy Agency said on Tuesday.

"China is now the largest energy consumer by our definition," the executive director of the Paris-based IEA, Nobuo Tanaka, told an industry conference.

"Probably half of the oil demand increase comes from China. Nobody knows when it (will) slow down."

The IEA advises 28 developed countries. China is not a part of the IEA but the agency monitors the country as its oil demand can have a significant impact on prices.

Tanaka said Iraq, which has just revised up its estimates of proven oil reserves by 25 percent, could have a major influence on the oil market.

"Iraq can be a game changer. We need Iraq oil," Tanaka said.

Not all environmentalists carry weenies in their pants, why; at least half of us are women.

I am aware of a great deal of environmental activism in Asia which badly needs this feedback regarding bad development and the exploitation of that continents remaining plants and wildlife.

So I don't see your point. Unless you wish me to fill you in, which I would be glad to.

I doubt you are interested however.

Interestingly enough, I am working with SaveJapanDophins and Sea Shepard.

So, interestingly enough, that's what I am doing; a small part of the effort to save important life in the oceans. With part of the emphasis on what is happening in waters around Asia.

So taunt away, I am doing what I can to do my small part in this sort of advocacy. Another thing I do is ride bicycles. I have not bought petrol/gasoline for several months.

In fact, I'm giving my car away next month to a friend who needs it for a buck to avoid the gift tax. Which is what I paid for this Ford Windstar. Which is clean and runs well and is nicely tuned and has new tires.

I just find cars inconvenient and unnecessary.

Gotta admit it, FM, I do admire you walking the walk.

Ah...no. I don't equate whales with humans, FM.

I also enjoy watching the anti whaling ships collide, and sink on occasion... (laughing)

Whales are also intelligent mammals, much like humans. I'm sure you are a specio-centric kind of guy; but I know whales and dolphins have language and culture, and rival us in brain development and mental ability.

There is zero difference between killing a cetacean and a hominid. Besides, if we can't save the integrity of life on this planet and do a better job protecting it, we can't untimately save our own species.

Actually, I have a very high respect for both whales and dolphins, and do know of the research related to both species, both whats publicly available, and whats classified (dolphins) via friends that worked with them.

Which is why I don't eat, or hunt, EITHER.

Where we disagree is the 'zero difference between killing a cetacean and a hominid'.

The whales wouldn't think like that if they had the chance. Something you enviroweenies aren't willing to admit, or even consider.

That said, I was serious about admiring the fact you walk the walk.
