Firefighters from South Fulton, Tennessee let a home burn to the ground last week because the homeowner, Gene Cranick, forgot to pay the annual $75 fire policy fee. The Cranick family lost all of their possessions and their four beloved pets - three dogs and one cat - died by burning alive. The city of South Fulton REFUSED to respond because the family forgot to pay the $75 annual fee. The Philanthropy Team is using an on-line viral campaign and social media to alert over 6,000 animal lovers from all 50 states to write letters, call and e-mail the City Commissioners of South Fulton, TN to immediately terminate the Mayor and Fire Chief. Pet lovers wishing to join this crusade can visit the home page of The Philanthropy Team to "Join the Protest" by clicking on the Take Action Now button or by donating to the cause. Donations are also being collected to fund placement of a full page ad in the Union City Daily Messenger and The Obion County Weekly demanding the immediate resignation of South Fulton Mayor David Crocker and Fire Chief David Wilds for their role in allowing four beloved family pets to perish in a preventable house fire. Funds raised above and beyond what is needed to fund the advertisements will be used to help the Cranick family. The Philanthropy Team is also forming a team of protesters to descend upon South Fulton city hall in the coming weeks. The Philanthropy Team has successfully mobilized thousands of pet lovers before using on-line viral marketing campaigns and social media outlets. They previously collected thousands of signatures to protest Congress's Crush Video Ban as well as to protest a Mesa, AZ restaurant that served lion meat. A few observations about this matter. 1. Its very doubtful they 'burned alive'. Suffocated from smoke inhalation is what happens in a fire in a home, 99% of the time. Still sucks, don't get me wrong, but using emotion in place of fact defeats the purpose here. 2. They didn't 'forget' to pay the $75. They REFUSED. 3. The Fire Department's insurance covering the firefighters wasn't applicable. The Fire Chief would have been fired, and the city sued if any injuries to the firefighters had occured, and lost. The cost to the city would have far outweighed the property value lost. JMHO. Bottom line is the homeowner was stupid not to pay the $75 bucks.
Your arguments are sound, and your BIG GOVERNMENT thanks you, but they are MENS LAWS/RULES and Ordinances, and they are obeyed by the heartless, the coldblooded, the judgemental, and those who have never been in simular situations, but THINK they know it all. While I draw a breath here on earth, I AM MY BROTHERS KEEPER, and while I do not believe socialized government of ANYKIND, I still believe in helping our own if we are close enough at hand to do something for them. The city pushing the blame here on the county, and/or the county blaming the city just does not wash. If they don't want BIG BROTHER interfering in their business, homes, lives...ect, then they should PROVE THEY CAN TAKE CARE OF THEMSELVES AND EACH OTHER.... The next time it may be another stupid person who didn't pay up, but it won't be precious pets that die...but a mother and her children....will you focus on the asshole who didn't pay? I mean no disrespect badeye, every man (and I use the term loosely) who stood around and watched their brothers home burn and pet die should get on their knees and pray something this horrible never happens to them. jmho!
No offense taken, Murron. I'd have done my best to get the dogs out even if I wasn't going to fight the fire. And yes...even the cat. Could have at least gotten the door open to give em a chance.
I'm glad, I wasn't talking about you personally, I know how you feel about your own pets. I just think we have to stop bitching about big government messing with us, but we can't seem to pull ourselves together and take care of our own, even the stupid ones LOL...
