People post on these boards for many different reasons - to pass the time, to have an honest political discussion, to advance their partisan beliefs, to make friends, to feel superior by ridiculing others, or to form cliques like they did in their glory days of HS, etc. Many times they will post something to someone that they would not dream of saying to their face. 2. It's best to periodically step away, lest you begin to take it too seriously. I try to follow this advice myself from time to time.

Myself, I've bitched about partisanship, but I think I've come to realize that what I perceive as partisanship in others is not usually how they perceive themselves. And (**gulp**) I've had to come to the not so happy resolution that others perceive ME as partisan. Can you believe it? Oh well, in all seriousness, I guess I am - although I don't think of myself as a Republican (and I'm definitely not a Democrat.) I don't even consider myself a conservative anymore - since that term has become as bastardized as the term liberal. I part ways, for instance, when my conservative "brethren" go RAH RAH for needless and mindless wars (Iraq). I guess I'm a Pat Buchanan conservative - what is it - a "paleo-con?" I do love this country - or more accurately, I did. I don't like what it's becoming. We're very polarized and divided - split evenly down the middle.
