[NB: Isn't Halloween In Three Weeks?]

Republican Meg Whitman has now spent $140 million on her bid to become governor of California, most of it from her own pocket.

According to campaign disclosure documents filed Tuesday night, Whitman spent $39.7 million from the beginning of July to the end of September and raised $38.7 million — $28 million of which came from her own funds.

Over the same period Democrat Jerry Brown spent $10 million and raised $9.4 million.

Brown’s campaign actually has more money on hand heading into the final stretch of the campaign, banking $22.5 million to Whitman’s $9.1 million. But Whitman’s cash-on-hand number is essentially meaningless, as the billionaire former eBay CEO is almost entirely self-financing her campaign.

Whitman has contributed $119 million from her personal fortune to her campaign so far and has pledged to spend upwards of $150 million to become governor.

Despite her record-setting spending, Whitman actually trails Brown in the latest polls, including a Reuters/Ipsos survey.

out Tuesday showing the Republican down 7 percentage points, 50 percent to 43 percent.

Whitman has spent predominantly on radio and television advertising with an apparent strategy of barraging voters with her message.

Smart Media Group has been paid $91 million by Whitman’s campaign so far to purchase radio and television ads. Meanwhile, her chief media consultant, Scott Howell & Company, has received $4.5 million from the Republican nominee. (1 image)

Why does a billionaire want to be governor?

My son actually sent this article to me along with the comment/question "How much does this job pay?"

Did your son ask that question when Hillary was running for a civil service position? Did you?

Well, [war's] got to do something for attention, his multiple personalities aren't speaking to him any more, and his imaginary friends keep finding excuses not to come over. (Murron)

Oh, the horror! She's spending her own money, rather than the taxpayers...

Obama's first all-by-his-lonesome budget, btw, calls for a $1.17 trillion deficit.

I found some of the comments very interesting. Like she's never been registered to vote (I assume in California) for one. And her outsourcing of EBAY jobs for another. It's amazing how little relevant info comes out about her here. It's all about Nannygate.

100 Ebay IPO's with her at the helm, through Goldman Sachs, might have something to do with it.

"Watch war pop up with a snotty comment ot related to the thread or question asked".

It's what war and his small group of idiots do best, seek and destroy. He was given time out for his disruptive, disrespectful behavior but he's learned nothing. He took his show, minus the rotten behavior, to FU, with Fred in tow like a whooped cur, they both were on their best behavior there, biding their time till stone let them back in.

Now it's back to disrespectful disruption as usual, jumping from thread to thread attacking the posters instead of addressing the issues or subjects, none of them stop to think what person might have put into the thread, they're time and research...

It's about killing these threads, once they're dead, they go on to the next, or they attempt to show how innocent they are by posting a thread now and again, like this one, to show the host that they are good little members and they've done nothing wrong...

I'm the last person who would ever want to silence a person, but when you can't tell the difference between excersising free speech on any given subject, and personal attacks to kill a forum, and chase away people who come to learn, then we have failed. They succeded in killing my thread I put quite a bit of time in, they will do the same to others, it's no wonder some conservatives lose their enthusiasm over issues out of frustration, socialist and clowns destroy everything they come in contact with. war and fred talk to stone, our host, like he was shit on their shoes, but they showed Brett at FU, nothing but respect! jmho!

i personally always choose the politician with the most money, figuring they don't have to rip me off.

Why does capitalist erica have such a fixation on me? I'm straight, have a job, not homeless and can go within 500 yds of a school. I therefore have nothing in common with erica

It's interesting that the question remains unaanswered. Why is all this money being spent?

It's HILARIOUS that Mammy Yokum is accusing me of killing a thread that a) I posted and b) I've commented upon and c) she attacks me by claiming that I attacked everyone on this thread.

I have said it, dipshit. Sauce for the goose is sauce for the gander. If she's spending her own money, what do you and yours have to say what her spending is? If you practiced values instead of partisanship I might respect you. You are so blinded by your stupidity and hate (as are all good liberals) you can't see the blindingly obvious parallel with Hillary running for the Senate, President and accepting Sec of State. Sounds like a real stupid move, income-wise. But she's a Dummycrat like you.

you can't see the blindingly obvious parallel with Hillary running for the Senate

I didn't vote for hillary for Senate; I voted for John Clifton.

And back in 2000, I commented that the amount of money being spent on that race and others was insane.

IN 2008, I commented on the insane amount of money being spent as well. In fact, there's yet to be an election cycle in which I have not. Not that any of this has to do with the article but I'lll keep this in mind the next time that you accuse me of engaging in personal attacks.
