Title: Meg Whitman spending hits $140M

[NB: Isn't Halloween In Three Weeks?]

Republican Meg Whitman has now spent $140 million on her bid to become governor of California, most of it from her own pocket.

According to campaign disclosure documents filed Tuesday night, Whitman spent $39.7 million from the beginning of July to the end of September and raised $38.7 million — $28 million of which came from her own funds.

Over the same period Democrat Jerry Brown spent $10 million and raised $9.4 million.

Brown’s campaign actually has more money on hand heading into the final stretch of the campaign, banking $22.5 million to Whitman’s $9.1 million. But Whitman’s cash-on-hand number is essentially meaningless, as the billionaire former eBay CEO is almost entirely self-financing her campaign.

Whitman has contributed $119 million from her personal fortune to her campaign so far and has pledged to spend upwards of $150 million to become governor.

Despite her record-setting spending, Whitman actually trails Brown in the latest polls, including a Reuters/Ipsos survey.

out Tuesday showing the Republican down 7 percentage points, 50 percent to 43 percent.

Whitman has spent predominantly on radio and television advertising with an apparent strategy of barraging voters with her message.

Smart Media Group has been paid $91 million by Whitman’s campaign so far to purchase radio and television ads. Meanwhile, her chief media consultant, Scott Howell & Company, has received $4.5 million from the Republican nominee. (1 image)

Disappear. I've had enough of your b.s. subterfuge for one day.

Well, [war's] got to do something for attention, his multiple personalities aren't speaking to him any more, and his imaginary friends keep finding excuses not to come over. (Murron)

When I used that kind of justification when I was a kid my mother would ask, "if he jumps off the bridge, are you going to follow"?

In Boofer's case, we can only hope.

True. Consider she thinks the Bush deficits exceed the Owe-bama deficits, even though anyone with a fifth grade education understands its three times as large.

Obama's first all-by-his-lonesome budget, btw, calls for a $1.17 trillion deficit.

You routinely admit to not understanding much.

Yep, the older I get, the more I'm mystified.

Interestingly enough, I think that every time you complain about the Bush deficits, then defend Owe-bama tripling it.

CBO released this a couple of weeks before Obama took office...

Predictions were dead on...

The deficit was projected out to be $1.2trl and did not account for any stim or new spending...

What makes you think I was talking about you?

If you can satisfactorily demonstrate that you were referring to anyone else I will apologize.

Why drag mininggold into it?

You've chastised her several times for referring to you in a post without PINGING you. I believe that she will appreciate the ironyof you using a proximic description, i.e. "these people", without pinging "these people".

Meanwhile...this thread does have a topic. Do you care to discuss it?

Meg's an Israel Firster too, just watch her kiss Israel's ass if she gets elected. But first she'll go down to Mexico and kiss their ass. It'll be the first item on her agenda.

the topic is Meg Whitman spending $140MM for a job for which she will not be paid.
