Title: 'Pledge to America' Attracting Little Attention on GOP Campaign Trail

When the "Pledge to America" was rolled out two weeks ago with a media blitz, Republican leaders trumpeted the 45-page booklet laying out their political agenda as a map to victory at the polls in November.

Since then, however, not many Republicans running for office are referring to the document on the campaign trail -- and some admit they haven't even read it.

The Washington Post looked for mentions of the pledge out on the stump and concluded that "relatively few Republican candidates across the country appear to be adopting it as a guiding vision, much less incorporating it into their campaigns."

That may be because the pledge doesn't seem to be resonating with voters. A new Post-ABC News poll found that just 34 percent of adults (and 46 percent of likely voters) had heard of the pledge. Of those who were aware of it, 45 percent said the document wouldn't affect how they vote in the midterm election.

But GOP leaders say the pledge was a success the minute it started being criticized by Democrats, who are no longer able to hit Republicans for lacking ideas. President Obama has referenced the pledge a number of times in the past week.

"The president was attacking us as the 'Party of No,' and now he's criticizing our ideas," Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.), who helped craft the document, told the Post. "He changed his whole attack against Republicans."

Yeah, it's a bit overshadowed by the GIGANTIC FRAUD of OBAMACARE.

Everyone has pretty much made up their mind they're going to punish the Dems for their horrible handling of the economy and Obamacare.

They don't get about the "pledge."

Clinton and Cuomo are the true bandits who lit the fuse to this economic crisis we're now in. All in the name of getting more minorities in houses: http://libertysflame.com/cgi-bin/readart.cgi?ArtNum=12554

Yeah, it's a bit overshadowed by the GIGANTIC FRAUD of OBAMACARE.

This is the area where we disagree.

They don't get about the "pledge."

And why I see you as a shill (sometimes) neb. Obama's got nothing to do with how pubbies receive pubbies. Obama has NOTHING to do with "the pledge."

'Pledge to America'

The "they" (pubbies who voted FOR the Contract with America) do "get it" about the "pledge" Neb. It's overshadowed not by Obama, but by the "Contract with America" pledge, proven to be empty words of neo-cons. Now comes 'Pledge to America', and those same people are saying, 'so what', more empty words of neo-cons."

And those who know that, are suspicious of those who say the Pledge is overshadowed not by the actions of neo-cons, but by Obama.

Neo-Con Pubbies are backing the "pledge", and backing arguing about it with dims.

The Tea Party says, "Yeah, so what, fuck the new neo-con pledge", not wasting their time arguing with lefties, and instead spending their time backing conservatives.

See what I'm sayin'?

The majority of voters I know and speak to don't talk about he pledge. I listen to a lot of talk-radio in an election year and the vast majority of callers complain about Obamacare and impending tax-hikes.

Most Reps I know don't even know about the pledge.

That's a good thing.

Most Reps I know don't even know about the pledge.

And that's an even better thing.

And I believe that rather than the pledge being "overshadowed" by other things, it is seen as another "Contract with America" stunt by the one party, and not even being worthy of debate. People are simply ignoring and dismissing it, thereby dismissing the neo-cons.

The "pledge" never got traction, and thus cannot be used as a device to divert the people's attention and efforts away from what's important.

Makes the neo-cons look bad. But hey, they could always claim it failed because it was "overshadowed", rather than outright rejected because it's a ploy. ;-)

I don't know if I've explained very well neb, but here's another way:

But GOP leaders say the pledge was a success the minute it started being criticized by Democrats, who are no longer able to hit Republicans for lacking ideas. President Obama has referenced the pledge a number of times in the past week.

"The president was attacking us as the 'Party of No,' and now he's criticizing our ideas," Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.), who helped craft the document, told the Post. "He changed his whole attack against Republicans."

The whole pledge thing is a red herring, allowing another fake argument about something inconsequential between the two wings of the one party, and people are wise to it.
