Title: California tea party activists work to pass Proposition 23

Tea party activists across the state are rallying in support of Proposition 23, a measure on the Nov. 2 ballot that would suspend California's landmark global warming legislation, known as AB 32.

...

The Yes on 23 campaign is financed primarily by Valero Energy and Tesoro, two Texas-based oil refiners. The campaign also received a $1 million donation from Flint Hill Resources, a Kansas petrochemical company that is a subsidiary of Koch Industries. Brothers Charles and David Koch fund a complex web of tea party organizations, detailed in a recent article in The New Yorker magazine.

...

However, Joe Wierzbicki, an executive at the Sacramento public relations firm Russo Marsh & Rogers who is also a coordinator with the group Tea Party Express, says that tea party activists in California have coalesced around Proposition 23 because they are not enthusiastic about the governor's race, and their preferred candidate for the U.S. Senate, Chuck DeVore, lost the Advertisement Republican primary to Carly Fiorina.

"There's energetic backing for Prop. 23 among the tea party networks in the state," said Wierzbicki. "With polls showing a dead heat for Prop. 23, I think you'll see the difference being made up by the intensity and passion among the electorate. Right now the passion is with Prop. 23 supporters. That bodes well for the measure."

Thanks for the ping. I was talking to a tea party higher up several months ago. One thing he mentioned I remember is that the tea party is a bunch of individuals. That they will be a little different in say California then say South Carolina.

Restricting oil based on a warming theory is a position that the left advocates.

Their Jewish constituents need us in the ME.

This WILL pass, as will legalization of marijuana.

The voters in Washington will follow on both in two years.

California and Washington were the first two states to outlaw affirmative action and allow medical marijuana. Washington was also one of the first states to pass "hard time for armed crime" and "3 strikes and your out".

The west coast always leads the way.

No that's wrong. They've been captured by people who are no longer willing to sacrifice themselves to American politicians and Indian / Chinese workers.

American needs to compete and CAN compete if the idiot government morons can be put in their place.

Yep. That is why some people who call themselves tea party might be more leftist in California.

Voting for the US to increase its energy production is not leftist.

Jerry Brown opposes Prop 23.

No one alive is to the left of Jerry Brown.

No one alive is to the left of Jerry Brown.

Jerry Brown is he only "leftist" politician that I like.

I like him because he likes ideas and is not afraid to challenge his own party.

In 1992, he ran for President against Clinton. Brown's signature issue was to scrap the entire U.S. tax code and replace it with a 13% flat rate income tax and a 13% VAT.

Who was Brown's top economic advisor in 1992? Arther Laffer. Yes, the same Arther Laffer that created Reagan's "Kemp-Roth" across the board 30% income tax cuts.

Sure, Brown can be a flake. But he is also a good guy.

This year, if I lived in California I would vote for Meg Whitman because California is out of control and it needs someone with some good business sense and fiscal discipline in charge.

That doesn't take anything away from Jerry Brown.

sorry silly goose but all tea party people should support it cause it's a JOB KILLER, here's the prop summary it simply suspends your global warming silliness until the unemployment levels reach an acceptable level.

* Suspends State law that requires greenhouse gas emissions be reduced to 1990 levels by 2020, until California's unemployment drops to 5.5 percent or less for four consecutive quarters. * Requires State to abandon implementation of comprehensive greenhouse-gas-reduction program that includes increased renewable energy and cleaner fuel requirements, and mandatory emission reporting and fee requirements for major polluters such as power plants and oil refineries, until suspension ends.

Try some rational thinking for a change and stop wallowing in Obama's glory

China is also building the largest damn in the world, which you can't do in the U.S. any longer because the left-wing wackjobs care more about the Salmon and Snail Darters than people.

Oh yes, they also have 30 nuclear power plants under construction. The last time the U.S. started a nuclear power plant was when Carter was President.

China is all about PROGRESS. Unlike the loonie left in the U.S., China will grow their economy using any means available. That's the bottom line.

Lots of red blooded GOP voting fishermen care about the salmon too. Too many earthquake faults are located on major dammable river systems in the US and large dams are known stressors. Which the Chinese are already becoming aware of BTW.

And the Chinese politicians don't care. They don't answer to their people except by revolution. And don't care if their air is as thick as mud. But they will milk a niche and green stuff seems to be the next big niche.

Are you talking about the Falun Gong?

I used to see them in Hong Kong at 6am stretching on the sidewalks in front of their condos.

No doubt that China is an authoritarian regime who views the Falun Gong and other groups as a treat to their authority.

But China is still more capitalistic and more focused as a society on growth and progress than the U.S.

That's why god invented Salmon farms. :)

And the Chinese politicians don't care

They certainly do care about lifting their people out of poverty. Over the last 30 years, the country went from Communist hell hole to a pretty nice place. In the process, 500 MILLION joined the middle class or became wealthy. China's goal is to lift the other 500 MILLION people out of poverty over the next 20 years. They are not going to allow western leftists with their delusions of "climate change" prevent them from doing that.

I believe that you have a loose term of what constitutes "capitalism". I believe that China embraces capitalism to affect an inflow of direct foreign investment but that the country's economy is better described as mercantile. And its government authoratarian.

I also believe, tho, that China IS moving away from the latter but until it emabraces basic human rights - including intellectual property rights - it's going to remain authoratarian.

I believe that you have a loose term of what constitutes "capitalism"

If someone wants to start a business making and delivering soup in China (a true story) they don't have to jump through city, county, state, and federal regulations of every sort -- health department, building codes, business license, on and on. They just do it. If they defraud someone or kill someone through negligence, they get prosecuted. The punishments for harming others are severe.

The are two big differences between Asia in general and the West in general:

A.) The Asians don't try to regulate every aspect of your economic life.

B.) The Asians don't give you transfer payments if you don't want to work. If you don't work, you don't eat. It's that simple.

Yes, the Chinese are politically authoritarian. But they are not economic authoritarians like Europe and unfortunately the U.S.

I've been to U.K., France, Germany, Sweden, Italy, Spain, Greece, Ireland, etc. and also to Japan, Singapore, China, Hong Kong, Philippines, Malaysia, Taiwan, etc. If I had to leave the U.S., I wouldn't go to Europe. I'd probably go to Singapore.
