A friend of mine just sent me this (on a completely different sort of website). He might have hit the nail on the head.
"C-Span is a Public Service Broadcaster, USA-style - ie owned and funded by the commercial broadcasters. The commercial broadcasters are Public Companies. Their major shareholders are the pension funds of other major Public Companies. Like Halliburton, BP, etc etc.
So obviously, it's in the "Public (Company) Interest" that the "Public Service Broadcaster" shouldn't broadcast the proceedings to the Public. And Joe Public can just forget the silly notion that Public Service Broadcasting (USA) is interested in him!"
