MONTERREY, Mexico, Oct 3 (Reuters) - Assailants tossed a grenade into a square in Mexico's northern business city of Monterrey on Saturday, injuring 12 people in an attack the government blamed on drug gangs.

Unidentified men on foot threw the grenade from the edge of a square where people had gathered in the municipality of Guadalupe, which is part of Monterrey, police said. Four children were among the injured.

"There was a loud explosion and people started screaming and running," a witness, who declined to give her name, told local radio.

The explosion was the fourth from a grenade during the weekend in Monterrey, one of Latin America's premier business cities. No one was injured in the earlier attacks.

Television images showed crying children rushed to the hospital, their heads wrapped with white bandages, but no one was seriously injured, the mayor of Guadalupe Ivonne Alvarez told local newspaper El Norte.

Mexico's Interior Ministry condemned the incident and promised a crackdown. It blamed organized crime for the grenade attack in a reference to drug cartels vying for smuggling routes into the United States and Mexico's home-grown drug markets.

Monterrey had been an oasis of calm but has been sucked into Mexico's drug war since the start of this year. One of the three grenade attacks on Friday across Monterrey came in the center of the city near the U.S. consulate, which had been targeted at least twice with grenades in 2009.

The government blames a split between the powerful Gulf cartel and its former armed wing, the Zetas, for much of the violence, which also has surged in neighboring Tamaulipas since the start of the year.

More than 29,000 people have died in drug violence since President Felipe Calderon launched his army-led offensive on drug cartels in late 2006. (Reporting by Robin Emmott in Monterrey and Michael O'Boyle in Mexico City)

Acapulco: 20 Mexican tourists were kidnapped by an armed gang in the city of Acapulco (Mexico), claimed the prosecutor’s office in Guerrero state in Southern Mexico.

The kidnapping was reported by Fernando Monreal, a tourist from the same group who escaped as he was away at a store leaving the group behind.

He said that when he returned he found his companions aged between 17 to 47 missing.

Officials are clueless about the identity of the kidnappers and the motive behind the kidnappings. Monreal, the tourist who reported the incident has also been missing since.

In another incident, officials on Saturday confirmed that 14 men had been shot dead early Friday morning in a remote mountain village in Durango State, one of Mexico's biggest drug-producing regions.

Mexico, which is infamous for its drug cartels has witnessed more than 29,000 casualties related to drug violence since Felipe Calderon, Mexico’s president, launched attacks led by the army on drug cartels in December 2006.

Wilson backed the wrong side in the Mexican revolution.

It wasn't up to him to back one side or the other but to let Mexico know that playing footsies with Germany and acting as a conduit for the illegal trade of arms to Germany by our 'super patriotic corporations' would not be tolerated.

Wilson fucked up and like with Roosevelt, we're paying the price for his stupidity.

He should have just let Remington Arms sell to Germany then. Isn't that what's it's all about with you free traders. Selling to the highest bidder? And Mexico might have actually joined ranks with Germany and allowed them a permanent hold in the New World. And you could be now speaking German.

And remember the havoc a little two bit bandit like Pancho Villa created. We would have been no match for a full fledged German invasion
