He was just 64. There is much more to say about this extraordinary man, but for now I just want to mention his sacrificing his lucrative career at National Review on the altar of truth. When Joe opposed the first US war on Iraq, ex-CIA agent Bill Buckley first ordered him to submit to the warfare state, and when he wouldn’t, fired him, even calling Joe an anti-Semite. But unlike Buckley and the other neocons who attacked him, Joe was no hater. He simply loved the Prince of Peace. Requiescat in pace. In in the early 90s, he wrote some articles critical of the Gulf War and also critical of Israeli lobbying efforts in the U.S. So, of course neo-commie Norman Podhoretz accused Sobran of being an anti-Semite. Buckley disagreed with Podhoretz's accusation stating that had Sobran been writing about the lobbying interests of the Arabs or of the Chinese, he would not have been called anti-Arab or anti-Chinese. Later, Sobran claimed that Buckley told him to "stop antagonizing the Zionist crowd". Buckley denied this and Sobran was fired. It ruined his career. This is one of the many reasons why I call neo-cons "neo-commies", because they operate just like leftists. If you oppose the left, you will eventually get called a "racist" or a "homophobe". If you oppose the neo-commie's war mongering agenda, you will eventually be called an "anti-Semite".
