The Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) was in West Memphis Friday making a training video for law enforcement agencies around the country on how to recognized the warning signs from extremist groups, in this case Sovereign Citizens. "The idea is to show the specific threat Sovereign Citizens is to police and law enforcement," said Mark Potok, editor of the Intelligence Report for the SPCL. "The murder of the two police officers was our cover story in our last magazine issue and out of that, we realized that law enforcement officers are in real danger from these people." Potok said police officers need to understand the group and doing so might prevent another tragedy like what occurred in West Memphis in May. "One of the warnings is strange license plates on vehicles," Potok said, "something like ‘The Republic of Texas.'"
