CBS News has obtained a final draft of House Republicans' legislative agenda for the next Congress, a 21-page "Pledge to America" that they will formally unveil Thursday morning at a Virginia hardware store. "The need for urgent action to repair our economy and reclaim our government for the people cannot be overstated," the introduction says. It continues: "With this document, we pledge to dedicate ourselves to the task of reconnecting our highest aspirations to the permanent truths of our founding by keeping faith with the values our nation was founded on, the principles we stand for, and the priorities of our people. This is our Pledge to America." For a breakdown of the document, check out "Pledge to America: The New Republican Agenda," by CBS News Senior Political Producer Jill Jackson. Below are some highlights, and the full document is at the bottom. Jobs: - Stop job-killing tax hikes - Allow small businesses to take a tax deduction equal to 20 percent of their income - Require congressional approval for any new federal regulation that would add to the deficit - Repeal small business mandates in the new health care law. You've been asking via the tagline for months, to avoid addressing the obvious fact the Democrats have fucked this economy up, and tripled the deficit, with nothing positive to show for it. Now you get the answer you've been demanding...and this is all you have, huh? (chuckle) Its okay, your beloved Democratic Party is in the same predicament this election cycle, and the next one. You had your chance. But like all uber liberals, you believed your own press releases.

It is what they are proposing. They are hoping that the voters think that the GOP has changed. BINGO! Hopey and changey, GOP style. Happens after every failed administration of either party. Hopefully enough voters get wise to the fact that they're getting batted back and forth like a ping pong ball, to elect some third party candidates. At least third party candidates offer a real prospect of hope and change. Whether they get elected, and deliver positive change, remains to be seen.

Not sure about the tariffs, but I am 100% in favor of all of your other suggestions. The GOP are a bunch of phonies and John Boehner is both an idiot and a coward. Regarding tariffs, simply shifting taxes away from production to consumption will go a long way to making America products more competitive both here a abroad.

What a horrible way to incentive hoarding money, and to penalize spending. You'd crash the economy doing that. Buying and selling services is good for the economy. Almost nobody works less because of income tax, but everyone would watch spending if it was highly taxed.
I've watched him in his visible public policy role. He is uninspiring, devoid of ideas, and scared to let his lieutenants rock the boat. I've seen people like Boehner my entire life. They get to where they are by kissing ass and then they inevitably fail. Mark my words, Boehner will single handedly torpedo whatever victory the GOP may achieve this fall.

- institute a surcharge tax on all imported manufactured goods that would be used to fund a bank to support investments in U.S. manufacturing (Andy Grove's idea to spur U.S. manufacturing)
- wind down our overseas military commitments to reduce our defense budget back to 2003 levels (as a percentage of GDP)
- eliminate subsidies for oil, agriculture
