Senator George LeMieux (R-FL) is starting to feel the heat of pro-migrant voters, specifically Latino voters. Tonight, Univision will air a debate in which current Florida governor and U.S. Senate nominee Charlie Crist will come out in support of the DREAM Act. The day before yesterday, Representive Kendrick Meek (D-FL), and also a nominee for U.S. Senate, hand delivered a letter to LeMieux. This part of Meek's letter says it all: It is important to note that the State of Florida stands much to gain from the passage of this legislation. By alowing certain youths an opportunity at a solid education and a pathway to citizenship, we can stop the current cycle of immigrant poverty and break the social caste systems that discourage economic and personal growth. Passage of the legislation will also help reduce high school dropout rates, boost college attendance and increase the poll of nurses, teachers, highly qualified recruits for the U.S. armed forces, and other high-need areas of our workforce. Further, Florida has had a standing tradition of bi-partisan support for immigration reform with Senators Bill Nelson and Mel Martinez helping lead the way with their sponsorship of the DREAM Act. On the House side the legislation enjoys bi-partisan support with eight Florida members currently signed on as co-sponsors. Kendrick Meek (16 September 2010) In Arizona, Senator John McCain (R-AZ) is also facing significant pressure. The migrant youth movement in Arizona has been hounding him and converting Republicans wherever he goes. Currently, undocumented youth who would benefit from the DREAM Act are camped outside of his office until he passes the DREAM Act. A few days ago, members of the Arizona DREAM Act Coalition approached his daughter, Meghan McCain, and got her to state her support for the DREAM Act: So it goes with the rest of the twelve Republican Senators we need to support the DREAM Act as actions happen across the country. Seven Republicans voted for the DREAM Act in 2007: Bob Bennett (R-UT), Sam Brownback (R-KS), Susan Collins (R-ME), Orrin Hatch (R-UT), Kay Bailey Hutchinson (R-TX), Richard Lugar (R-IN), and Olympia Snowe (R-ME). If they refuse to vote for the exact same bill in 2010 they will expose themselves as the "party of no" that Democrats have accused them of. It is bigger than just the 2010 elections, though. If the Republicans do not vote in favor of getting the DREAM Act passed, now, they will turn off an entire generation of Latino voters. If the Democrats are playing politics with the DREAM Act, so be it. Moderate Republicans should not let politics get in the way of the lives of millions of migrant youth, or the lives of the voters in the communities that undocumented youth are intertwined with, for that matter. I personally can say that as furious as I've been at Democrats for tearing apart our communities with over a thousand deportations a day, they've got me focused on Republican votes and the upcoming elections, right now, like I've never been before. If my senator from Massachusetts, Scott Brown (R-MA), votes against the DREAM Act I will work harder than I've ever worked on anything like this before to get him replaced with a pro-migrant Senator in 2012. As Latino migrant youth leader Carlos Saavedra said in the New York Times "Our people will remember in November. They will be ready to reward or punish."

Should businesses have the freedom to hire whoever they want without government intervention, or do you favor policies that subject business to government control and restrict their freedoms?
Why are you giving support to the invasion of this country by a country that has a very recent record of RACISM and GENOCIDE against its own racial minorities (the Mayan Native Americans) using GUN CONTROL LAWS, Very European of Mexico if I do say myself. (Europe INVENTED "gun control" as a genocide enablement method while falsely calling it a "crime control" measure.)
A good question. It's not businesses job to enforce immigration, tax, or any other legislation. So they should be free to hire whomever they want. It's the governments job to "protect the States against invasion", and enforce immigration law including deporting illegal aliens. Ike rounded em up and shipped them to Puerto Vallarta, way down in central Mexico. Not so easy to return that way. The US Army should be on the border fighting the invasion, rather than on the Syran, Korean, etc. borders. The hundreds of thousands of federal desk jockeys should be out rounding up illegal aliens. After they're done there will be lots of extra jobs in the private sector, so lay about 90% of them off. It will be quite a shock to them to have to work for a living, but they'll adjust.

Now all McLunatic has to do is call ICE to come pick them up and deport them. Problem solved. They won't need US taxpayers dollars and government mandated set aside programs in order to attend school back in their home countries. Palo,why don't you and a few of your neighbors get together and call ICE and demand they go there and make arrests? Get together with the Tea Party or some other organization and announce you have done this on tv so that ICE can't ignore the demands and have to answer questions from reporters. If the Republicans do not vote in favor of getting the DREAM Act passed, now, they will turn off an entire generation of Latino voters If they don't like it,let them return to the mythical country of Latino and learn how to speak Latin so they can protest all the needy American students living in Latino illegally who want special student slots set aside for them along with government mandated hiring for them when they graduate. Not to mention letting them take classes in English. Let me make this simple enough you simple peasants can understand it. This is NOT a socialist country. If you are here illegally,you need to serve a short term in jail doing hard labor before being deported back to the 3rd world socialist shithole you escaped from to get here. Not entirely true,since businesses are required by law to pay into government social programs for each employee. Many of the ones that hire illegal aliens do so not only because the illegals will work for less money,but because the businesses don't have to pay into the federal social services/taxes agencies for employees that are off the books.

Why do you and your fellow lefties want to use the power of government to not only tell businesses who they MUST hire and promote,but even tell people who they can and cannot sell or rent their houses to? BTW,what is the left's plan for creating jobs,other than turning the US into just one more socialist shithole where everybody works for the government,just like they did in the "good old days" (to the left) of the old Soviet Union?

The illegal alien population is down by 8% and annual illegal immigration down by 67% over what it was mid Bush administration.

Socialist Security and requiring businesses to collect taxes for the government are probably unconstitutional, or at least should be made so, with an amendment if necessary IMO. De-fund the beast! The feds have the job of protecting the States against invasion, and clearing illegal aliens out of the workforce and deporting them, but governors are permitted to fight invasions of their State. None of the above are doing their jobs and should be impeached, fired, tried, and hung (then hObama's remains should be deported to Kenya). Business is over regulated, restricted, taxed, and generally F'd with by the government. They certainly don't need the additional burden of being required to play immigration cop. Government needs to get the hell out of their way, and let them thrive. Corporations need to lose their special status as super citizens. Another protected species, and not equality under the law.

Just because hObama, Bush, and DHS/Nappylatino can't see them, doesn't mean they're not there. No one has any idea how many there are, so they have to guesstimate. Apprehension statistics just tell you how many are caught, not if they're trying to catch them or what gov impediments have been thrown in the way. Not a good basis for an accurate estimate. IOW, they're cooking the books. Yes, there is some decrease in invasions and illegal alien population due to Bush/Obama economic policies and the resulting depression. This makes the remaining illegal alien invaders even more objectionable, since they're sucking up scarce resources and jobs.

She may not be making it up. I know that in the area where I live illegal aliens started disappearing when the housing market crashed. You almost never hear anybody around here speaking Spanish anymore,and there used to be a Spanish language newspaper and radio station here. Both are now gone.

Everybody is entitled to their own opinion. Your,and even my,opinion are irrelevant here though,since under current regulations businesses ARE required to check SS numbers and to pay into FICA.
