Title: Tea Party-Backed O'Donnell Wins Upset In Delaware [Democrats rejoice]

WILMINGTON, Del. (AP) -- Conservative activist Christine O'Donnell has earned a stunning victory in Delaware's Republican Senate primary.

O'Donnell's shocking win over longtime Congressman Mike Castle gives new energy to the tea party movement, which targeted Castle after victories by Republican tea party candidates in the Alaska and Nevada Senate primaries.

With 78 percent of precincts reporting, O'Donnell had 54 percent to 46 percent for Castle, a former two-term governor and the longest serving congressman in Delaware history.

While attracting enough GOP conservatives to defeat Castle, a leader of Republican moderates in Congress, O'Donnell will have a hard time defeating Democrat Chris Coons in November for the Senate seat vacated by Joe Biden after he was elected vice president. Subscribe to *Tea Party On Parade*

The GOP backed a mainstream Republican and lost. RINO's are in, globalists are OUT.

Bush and McStain are under the bus.

is it true that she lives off campaign donations? If so, she's probably going to jail before she goes to the Senate.

And the Conservative plan to create jobs is......?????

Just trying to figure out if it's worth getting into a new career - bilking dumb conservatives seems to pay well.

Agreed. If O'Donnell loses it's better than some Rino getting in, betraying us, and constantly voting for Obama.

@KarlRove just said on Fox that Republicans won't be able to win

@daveweigal Message I'm getting from GOP strategists: Delaware is off the map. Congratulations, Senator Coons.

@sethmeyers21: For someone so pro-abstinence, O'Donnell certainly f*cked the GOP.

Rothenberg update: "We’re moving the race from Lean Republican to Lean Democrat."

PPP: O'Donnell's fav/unfav is 29/50

Only a GOPer could argue it's better to lose than to win.

Did you guys sleep through all the bills that Obama and the Democrats passed in the last year and a half because they had large majorities in the House and Senate?

Excellent! She can come out of the closet as pro-American after she wins the general, throw the GOP under the bus, and join the Constitution Party.

Here we go again Katy! Dim those damned lights, pull the shades and roll another one...this 'party' is just getting started.

Be damned if I'm not going to have to start checking in with the Weekly Standard at least through November.

The Dems were thrilled when Scott Brown was the nominee. When Spector switched. When Jeffords switched. The list is endless actually.

Doesn't change the fact GOP turnout is in record numbers in the primaries, nor does it change the dynamic this is about Owe-bama, Pelosi and Reid's failed policies.

Its the economy, stupid. And that won't change before November, of this year, or 2012.

Obama's first all-by-his-lonesome budget, btw, calls for a $1.17 trillion deficit.

She's a globalist liberal, so she fits right in with the Republicans. They love her.

NRSC Chairman Cornyn’s Statement On Delaware Senate Race (NRSC.org)

U.S. Senator John Cornyn (R-TX), Chairman of the National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC), released the following statement regarding the Delaware Senate race:

“Let there be no mistake: The National Republican Senatorial Committee – and I personally as the committee’s chairman – strongly stand by all of our Republican nominees, including Christine O’Donnell in Delaware.

“I reached out to Christine this morning, and as I have conveyed to all of our nominees, I offered her my personal congratulations and let her know that she has our support. This support includes a check for $42,000 – the maximum allowable donation that we have provided to all of our nominees – which the NRSC will send to her campaign today.

“We remain committed to holding Democrat nominee New Castle County Executive Chris Coons accountable this November, as we inform voters about his record of driving his county to the brink of bankruptcy and supporting his party’s reckless spending policies in Washington.

“In the weeks ahead, we will decide where to best allocate additional financial resources among the large number of competitive races at stake this November. While it’s not in Republicans’ interest to advertise our spending strategy to our opponents, it’s worth noting that just yesterday, the NRSC’s first independent expenditure ad aired in support of Dr. Rand Paul’s campaign in Kentucky, where we firmly believe that he will win in November.

“It remains to be seen whether national Democrats will provide a similar level of support for many of their nominees, including in key battleground states like Indiana, Ohio, Florida, Arkansas, Illinois, and New Hampshire, among others. The Democrats’ indecision reflects the fact that Republicans are on offense in at least 12 Democrat-held states and we are leading in the polls in seven of those 12 states.

“Finally, on the matter of the New Hampshire Senate race, while the results remain outstanding, we continue to monitor the Republican primary race, and we stand ready to fully support whichever candidate is chosen as the nominee.”
