I'm glad we are not theocratic like Iran and other countries where religion is the backbone of their government. Christianity has been used similarly to do much the same thing. Catholics in England once were ordered not to practice their faith and were fined or severely sanctioned for not going to services in Protestant Churches. Christianity has evolved past the point where one would be killed or imprisoned for being a heathen. I expect that much as been the case with Christianity and nations that used that religion to put a yoke of oppression on people, Iran, Saudi Arabia and others will have a similar learning curve and develop more enlightened policies.
