"Patriots" hoping to shake Glenn Beck's hand on the nine-year anniversary of the September 11 attacks will be out of luck if they waited too long.

At CBS News, Brian Montopoli reports, "Sarah Palin and Glenn Beck are appearing together in Anchorage, Alaska Saturday to mark the anniversary of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks, and tickets don't come cheap: The Ticketmaster page for the event lists regular adult tickets at between $73 and $130 and tickets plus a 'meet & greet' at $225."

At The Hill, Michael O'Brien observes, "There is one key difference, though, between the 'Restoring Honor' rally and Beck's event in Anchorage: This one costs attendees. Tickets for the event range from a low of $73.75 per person (including taxes and fees) to a high of $225, for a spot in the arena and participation in a 'meet and greet.' There was no indication to whom or what the proceeds will go."

The CBS article continues,

The event will also have a "dry section" where no alcohol is served and a "wet section" for those who want to drink.

Palin heralded the event on her Facebook page last night with a message beginning, "Glenn's coming to the Last Frontier!"

"I hope my fellow Alaskans (and anyone visiting from Outside) will join me this Saturday, September 11, 2010, at Anchorage's Dena'ina Center at 8:00 p.m. Glenn Beck will be there - you won't want to miss it," she wrote.

Added Palin: "We can count on Glenn to make the night interesting and inspiring, and I can think of no better way to commemorate 9/11 than to gather with patriots who will 'never forget.' Hope to see you there!"

All the "meet and greet" tickets priced at $225 are currently sold out, along with the "wet" seat tickets, so only tea party teetotalers can still salvage their 9/11 anniversary plans in Alaska.

The Alaska Dispatch notes,

According to a letter to the editor of The Frontiersman, the Conservative Patriots Group is holding a "non-partisan, non-political remembrance rally" (a remembrance 'rally'?) to commemorate the victims of the terrorist attacks on Sept. 11, 2001. Speakers include Wasilla Mayor Verne Rupright, plus Joe Miller and tentatively Scott McAdams, both candidates for U.S. Senate. The organizers promise to show what they believe is a "never-before-seen slide show" of the attacks. The event will begin at Wasilla's Menard Sports Center at Noon on Saturday, Sept. 11, and end at 2 p.m. The Conservative Patriots Group's statement concludes:

All are invited. Bring your children. Cake and coffee will be served, and Conservative Patriots Group will be sponsoring a youth essay contest with the theme “How Has 9/11 Affected the United States of America.” Cash prizes will be awarded, and contest entry forms are available only at Saturday’s rally.

Gryphen, the administrator of the progressive blog, Immoral Minority, hears from an unnamed source that Sarah Palin herself will be attending the Wasilla rally, and that attendees will follow her to Anchorage in a giant motorcade for her scheduled speech at Glenn Beck's event at Anchorage's Dena'ina Civic and Convention Center.

At Immoral Minority, Gryphen complained that "apparently much of Beck's audience will be made up of these wingnuts from the Valley who will be arriving in MY city on 9-11 to 'commemorate' the death of 3,000 Americans in New York."

This is well beyond the regular kind of crazy, even for Wasilla! This sounds like the same kind of insanity that inspires the minister in Florida to advocate the burning of Korans as a way to commemorate this same day.

At Think Progress, Lee Fang blogs, "Last year, Glenn Beck and a variety of right-wing organizations and corporate front groups exploited the anniversary of the September 11th terrorist attacks to stage a protest of President Obama. This year, many of the same groups are planning yet another rally with the same themes as last time."

But in addition to using September 11th as a launching pad to score political points, the right is now using the day to rake in cash. A sampling of the 9/11 profiteers:

– Disgraced lobbyist Ralph Reed is using his consulting firm Century Strategies to host a “Faith and Freedom Conference and Strategy Briefing” with an assortment of conservatives, including Brent Bozell, Tony Perkins, Rich Lowry, Tucker Carlson, Grover Norquist, Gov. Bob McDonnell (R-VA), Rep. Lynn Westmoreland (R-GA), Erick Erickson, and others. The event is on September 10th-11th, and costs $95 for early registration.

– Newt Gingrich is using the September 11th anniversary to unveil a new movie called “America At Risk,” which Gingrich says will drive the “national dialogue” about President Obama’s failure to address the rise of “Radical Islam” and its attempt to impose Sharia law on the United States. Gingrich’s website notes that the public can “pre-order your copy now for just $19.95 plus $4 shipping.”

"But it’s more than just hate and lame election season political rallies," Fang argues. "Right-wing leaders see September 11th as just another opportunity to enrich themselves."

THE MYSTERY PLANE. Many people in the Shanksville area, including some interviewed by the Daily News, saw a fast-moving, unmarked small jet fly overhead a very short time after Flight 93 crashed. Several days later, authorities said they believe the plane was a Falcon 20 private jet that was headed to nearby Johnstown but was asked to descend and survey the crash site. Yet officials have never identified the pilot nor explained why he was still airborne roughly 30 minutes after the government ordered all aircraft to land at the closest airport.

THE ENGINE. While the FBI and other authorities have said the plane was mostly obliterated by the roughly 500 mph impact, they also said an engine -- or at least a 1,000-pound piece of one -- was found "a considerable distance" from the crater. Stuhl, the Shanksville mayor, said it was found in the woods just west of the crash. That information is intriguing to shoot-down theory proponents, since the heat-seeking, air-to-air Sidewinder missiles aboard an F-16 would likely target one of the Boeing 757's two large engines.

LOCATION OF F-16S. From Day 1, the government has given conflicting accounts about the exact whereabouts of three North Dakota Air National Guard F-16s, assigned to national air defense, based at Langley Air Force base in Virginia and scrambled at the height of the attacks. Just a few days after the crash, a federal flight controller told a Nashua, N.H., newspaper that an F-16 was "in hot pursuit" of the hijacked United jet, following so closely that it made 360-degree turns to stay in range. The National Military Command Center (NMCC) has just segued from a Significant Events Conference to an Air Threat Conference. The latter had SIOP (Single Integrated Operations Plan) implications according to NMCC officers that Commission Staff interviewed.

Concurrently, a decision was being made as to where the President would fly; he is on his way to the airport to board Air Force One. At the same time, Venus 77, another E4B has told Andrews Tower it is going to take off VFR, initially declaring for either Wright Patterson or Offut and then changing its plan to fly a holding pattern over Richmond, Virginia.

There is nothing remarkable or unusual about any of this activity. It is what we would expect the National Command Authority to be doing, given the unfolding attack, the NMCC’s activation of an Air Threat Conference, and the determination as to where it was the President should fly. It is likely, given the VIVI 36 flight plan request, that one option on the table was for the President to fly to New York.

The Bobcats, briefly an item of interest

The Bobcats became, briefly, an item of interest to the Commission Staff because of a single analytical question. Given that the military was a significant daily user of the nation’s airspace; and given that the formal air defense response was not effective; and given that FAA controllers vectored the Air National Guard C-130H, Gofer 06, to follow AA 77; what, if any, other military aircraft already in the air might have been used in some manner in response to the attack on the nation’s capital?

Primary source (radar and air traffic control transmissions) analysis revealed five military aircraft airborne in the area of the Pentagon, shown in this circa July 2003 staff workup.

The depiction is a screen print of 84th RADES radar data filtered to show specific aircraft and all primary returns in the DC area for the 13 minute period beginning at 9:25. “Sword 183; is actually “Word 31.”

The Bobcats

Radar files and air traffic control communications clearly show that a pair of aircraft in trail formation, Bobcat 14 and Bobcat 17, transited the DC area northeast to southwest in the same time frame that AA77 was approaching the area from the West.

The Bobcats were given their call sign by Colin Scoggins, Military Liaison Boston Air. One Question above many:

However, a report by ABC News is more consistent with Scoggins’ claims, indicating that Boston Center contacts NEADS about the hijacking earlier, at around 8:31. [ABC News, 9/11/2002] (Boston Center also contacts the FAA’s Cape Cod facility at 8:34 and requests that it notify the military about Flight 11 (see 8:34 a.m. September 11, 2001). Apparently around the same time, it tries contacting a military unit at Atlantic City (see (8:34 a.m.) September 11, 2001).) Scoggins says he makes “about 40 phone calls to NEADS” in total on this day. [Griffin, 2007, pp. 43] NEADS Commander Robert Marr later comments that Scoggins “deserves a lot of credit because he was about the only one that was feeding us information. I don’t know exactly where he got it. But he was feeding us information as much as he could.” [Michael Bronner, 2006]

This image depicts their transit as recorded in 84th RADES files. Their path is consistent with the established flight plan as depicted on en route flight strips.

According to ZDC flight strips the Bobcats were a scheduled flight of T-2 aircraft from Dover Air Force Base to Knoxville, TN. The T-2 is a two-seat jet trainer used by the Navy.

The pair took off around 9:15 and headed westerly to a navigational point near Baltimore at which time they turned south and checked in with DCA TRACON, Bobcat 14 at 9:31:30 and Bobcat 17 at 9:32:16. They proceeded through DCA airspace and were handed off to ZDC on a heading of 245; Bobcat 14 at 9:35 and Bobcat 17 seven minutes later. There is nothing unusual about their flight plan, their route which followed the flight plan, or their presence in DC airspace.

It is a bizarre fact of 9-11 that a National level airborne command post flew westerly over Virginia at the same time the hijacked AA77 flew generally the I66/Rte29 corridor on its eastern approach to its target. Neither was aware of the others existence.

The 11th slide in this Commission file, a screen print from 84th RADES data, shows the relationship of Word 31 (labeled Sword 31), AA77, Gofer 06 and, according to Andrews flight strips two military T2 aircraft, Bobcat 14 and Bobcat 17, transiting the area north-to-south, at altitude. At the time AA77 was approaching DC, Word 31 was being routed around DC to the south, a normal routing according to controllers at Dulles TRACON. Air Traffic Control tapes confirm that Word 31 was routed around the National Capital Region before anyone knew that AA77 was approaching. Reagan National tape (big file, 23 MB) is at this link.

Gofer 06

Gofer 06 was in the takeoff queue behind Word 31 and it was delayed briefly because of B747 wake turbulence. Quick action by FAA controllers at National Tower/TRACON resulted in Gofer 06 being the only military aircraft that day to see one of the hijacked aircraft and the only one vectored to follow any of the four aircraft. En route home, it again came to air traffic control attention. Cleveland Center directed Gofer 06 to turn right to avoid oncoming traffic, UA 93. Gofer 06 reported smoke soon after the turn that turned out to be from the Shanksville site, the first such report to FAA.

So FAA takes over Andrews when?

At the same time it's vectoring Word31 E4B (which can launch itself;} AROUND DC? Watch out for that Hijacked jet coming in. LMFAO

The pilot declared for Offutt AFB and on its climb-out western leg Venus 77 passed just north of P56, the restricted flying area over the National Capital Region. There is no correlation between Venus 77 and the Langley fighters. There is no primary source information to support the contention that the Langley fighters were vectored to intercept Venus 77.
